| Limpet | auto water change system??? I have been up to early this morning doing a water change and had a brain storm. What about an auto water change system??? I can make up 5 gallons of salt water in a jug from the camping store and hook it up to my quad doser to go into the tank. Then take a line from the sump and run it through the doser as well into a waste bucket. set the params on the doser to pump both channels at the same rate. And Presto auto water changing system. Any thoughts on this or should I wait to think on it some more and drink more coffee??

| Golden Moray | Re: auto water change system??? Interesting, but if I am reading this right, you say you have both channels pumping at the same time, right? If you have fresh water going in at the same time you have old water coming out, aren't you also taking the fresh water out that was put in with the doser? There doesn't seem to be a fair exchange of water. I am not familiar with the dosers so these are just my thoughts. Educate me. ![]() |

| Limpet | Re: auto water change system??? I have an aquamedic quad doser with 4 channels. I am only using 2 of them for supplements right now. you can set the flow rate through a cycle you can make the cycle as often as 1 minute to once in a 24 hour period. With one channel i can pump water into the tank (not the sump) for lets say 75ml an hour. the second channel will pull water out of the sump and discard it into the drain. the two channels will pump at the same time at a rate of 75 ml an hour one into the tank and the other pulling from the sump. The doser uses 1/4 inch tubing (I buy it 400 feet at a time). so the possibilities are endless. I also made a drip system for trace elements and such by taking a 5 gallon water jug from the camping store. It has a knock out in the lid that i put a barb fitting into (the lid is threaded for this) I then attach tubing to the barb and run it to a ball valve to control the drip rate. This then runs into the sump. I set my drip rate at about 15 drops per minute. this keeps the tank topped off and the sump level constant.
