Closed loop questions

Ok I want to put in a system. Without drilling it seems to be the easiest to go over the top of the tank.

I'm wondering if this pump will work
Quiet One 6000 12.2 ft head 1"fittings 1506gph

I'm thinking a 1" return with 8 3/4" outs. Will that work?

Re: Closed loop questions

That pump will be around 400- 450 gph after all the outlets and vertical/horizontal head pressure. so, i'm thinking each nozzel will be a "trickle"... so either a bigger pump or less outs IMO. always a possibility to do 4 outlets on a sqwd!

Re: Closed loop questions

I find my ampmaster 3000 to do an awesome job on my 120 CL. It's quiet, and gives an aweome flow. Dolphin pumps rock!

What is this? And you really think I'd loose that much pressure eh? Ok, that's a no go then.

Re: Closed loop questions

A sqwd is a wave device that doesnt use electricity it uses the force of the water to switch theside that water is pushed from the pipes it also decreases the gph of the pump so be careful. i have one on my tank very handy i like it
good luck

Re: Closed loop questions

Even after looking at it again. I need to get things moving. I don't think a scwd is going to work as it only handles up to 1400gph. I need to really pick it up. My flow thru sump is about 800gph and about max for my current sump. So I need a closed loop and I'm thinking maybe around the 2000gph rate? I'd really like at least 4 "inputs" into the tank and returns to the pump can be however many. 2 would be nice but I need flow here.

So by keeping the pump above the tank am I creating more head than by having it on the ground? The top of my tank is 6' off the ground. It's up there.

The more I think it over the more confused i get. I'm just trying to keep water moving and have minimal "dead" spots. I had nitrats go up considerably this last week when I moved a power head. The decrease in flow was noticable. I have quite a few spots that need more flow so this is my general thing to solve it.

Unless I'm totally barking up the wrong tree.....

Re: Closed loop questions

Ok, jorgens, a couple more thoughts on what your thinking. oh, first, are you opposed to powerheads?? anyway, depending on where your pump is and because it's external, it would need a way to prime it. also, think of the outlets as dividing the flow down. a 1 to 1 pump that is 900 gallons per hour will be 900 gph out of 1 outlet. take the same pump and it will only lose a little head pressure, say 800 gph, but you're dividing that between 4 outlets which means each outlet has 200 gph. that doesn't move much water. And as far as the sqwd, i'm sure a more powerful pump could go on it, it will just switch sides faster. good luck!!!

Re: Closed loop questions

You could set up a manifold system. I did something similar for return on my chiller and it works great. Here is some info.
