Re: Durso Standpipe?

i built the compact version of the durso standpipe for about $5 and it took about 5 minutes to assemble and another 10 or so to tweak. it silences my overflow very well, not completely but enough that it doesnt disturb me when using my pc (in the same room). ill post some pics sometime if you guys want.

Re: Durso Standpipe?

well, i just dont like the constant cleaning and tweaking to get them silent. i've built several with different tweaks. airline in the vent hole, different sized pipes, the stock aga version. etc.. it seems im constantly fiddling with it. maybe im just being picky. but eventually the salt plugs the hole and the flushing begins. or if the hole is too big the tank acts like it wants to overflow(it hasnt yet but i dont want to find out) it worked absolutely awesome when i was running one on my african cichlid tank. for the most part it works fine, but im constantly on the search for a new tweak or mod and no one seems to run a stockman so im going to try one out on the new tank. im waaay to busy at the moment to build one or it would be there now. like i said i may just be being too picky but im lazy and i have enough stuff to keep me busy as it is without worrying about a standpipe

Re: Durso Standpipe?

I played around with the right size drill hole for my durso and after much tinkering I gave up. I took the standpipe and drilled a bigger hole through the side of the end cap and the standpipe so I could "dial" in the correct area hole my tank wanted.

Re: Durso Standpipe?

mine has been runnign pretty well. it doesnt silence teh drain, it just makes it much quieter and sounds like running water, not a toilet flushing

Re: Durso Standpipe?

My (120 dual overflow) durso's gurgled at first also Nanoreefbro. I drilled 3 more tiny holes (one at a time) in the caps and it fixed it. Give that a try! Later, you can always put a dab of silicone over the hole if needed.

Re: Durso Standpipe?

I've also drilled the hole oversized, and stuck in an air valve, so I can easily adjust the airflow through the Stockman. (built one for an Amiracle overflow) Same technique will work well for the Durso.
You can get these at Home Depot or wherever that are threaded as well:

OR, you can use these:
