mmm, if its working well it will produce more gunk, the nitrate may/will spike probably anyway, I keep looking at you collection cup and cant figure it out any chance for a sketch? Steve

lol its SUPER high res

seriously though, its a regular ol collection cup. there is a 1.5inch "throat" that leads into a 3in collection cup. that drains into the bucket.

okies now I get it! the cup slides off the neck? I dont use any cups just a direct vent to the waste catcher

The throat is higher then the base of the "cup" so skimmate collects below the throat, and then exits the cup through the tube.

Upgrade from 125 long to 210 on 1/7/07. 66 gallon sump/refugium.
10 hrs of light: 500 watt pc actinic 10 hrs
400 watt pc daylight 6 hrs
500 watt MH 4 hrs
180 lbs branch liverock. 100 lbs + assorted liverock. 3"+ DSB.

Fish - Foxface, Yellow Tang, Mimic Tang, 2 Tomato Clowns, pair True Percula Clowns (and their 6 inch pastel green carpet), Mandarin, Scooter Blenny, Bartlett's Anthias, Royal Gramma, Pseudochromis Splendens.

Blue/Gold Crocea Clam, Teardrop Squamosa Clam

Coral favorites include: 2 Acanastreas, Pink Cynaria, Green Cynaria, Birdsnest, Trumpets, Red and Pink and Green Goniporas (3), Frogspawn (peach favorite), Fox Coral, Diploastrea, Blasto, 3 Fungia (orange, purple, and green) and many others.

Hey this design is great and simple. I read through this and went and bought all I'd need to make it already.

I have a couple questions though:

how did u end up getting your airstone line in?

how did you cap the bottom?

did you glue a piece inside where the skimmate overflows into the drain line?
The pieces I have don't have a spot where it can overflov into and then drain, it's just slanted back to where it is pushing up from.
