| Elegance coral | Re: here i go again... protein skimmer time! well i narrowly avoided cutting my finger off with the jigsaw... im also pretty annoyed right now. i need 4 inches of 1.5 inch pvc to complete the collection cup, but all the places here sell it in 10 foot increments.......

| Elegance coral | Re: here i go again... protein skimmer time! ok guys, the project is like 99% done! ive tested it in my bathtub with a bucket of water and some rubbery duckies (to make sure that they dont liek.. die... ya know). the test appears to be successful. my inexpensive powerhead had no prob keeping a good flow into the skimmer, and it drained correctly! i have one final question... what is the capital of asyria!?!?! no really, how high should i have teh water level inside teh skimmer? i know it will need to be adjustable, but im concerned that the 3 inches of adjustment will not be enough if the drain is too high or too low. currently my drain, when adjusted all the way down, is about an inch above the water inlet. will that be too wet? i cant adjust down anymore, so if thats too wet, id have to stop the skimmer and cut the pipe somemore. hey igerold, wheres your water level inside your skimmer?

| Scopas Tang ![]() | Re: here i go again... protein skimmer time! The filter box wasn't terribly expensive. The filter cartridge was kinda pricey at $15 as I recall. I wonder if a vacuum cleaner hepa filter cartridge would be less expensive and smaller?

| Scopas Tang ![]() | Re: here i go again... protein skimmer time! The Coralife Airluft has been a good pump. It's quite quiet. I originally used a Hagen Optima pump which I've had for years. It produced nearly as many bubbles.

| Elegance coral | Re: here i go again... protein skimmer time! welp, i got my air pump a day early. hookedup the skimmer and air pump. itll be a few days before i can tell if it works or not. since i can only see the top of the skimmer i can see the bubbles rising. theyre big bubbles, not super fine ones... any idea what that means? is it normal?

| Brunt of all Jokes~ ![]() | Re: here i go again... protein skimmer time! I am confused (no really) where are you getting the water from to supply the skimmer? it looks like the supply line is going to the overflow? or is the an optical illusion? It should be big enough to handle all species, go big, or stay home lol. Steve |
