| Tunicate | Hey first post ever, will try not to screw it up.I am setting up my new 135 gallon acrylic,my question involves the return lines from sump tank.I think my return pump is a 400-600 gph range with a 1" intake and a 3/4" return.I want as much return pressure or forceful current as possible but I have to "T" the return each end going to spraybar at seperate ends of tank.Would I be better off using 1/2" pvc to create more pressure or should I use 3/4" pvc like the pump is designed for,and would this create less flow and or pressure because it is "T"d??Hope this makes sense. |

| DIY Moderator | Re: Plumbing Question??? Use 3/4" pvc or use a pvc "Y" and then run flexible hose to each ends return line. T give you an extra 1 foot of head preassure. What pump are you running? 600 gph is really low for a 135 gallon tank. What are you wanting for a tank? FOWLR, FO, Reef?

| Tunicate | Re: Plumbing Question??? I have an existing 75g fowlr tank that I am going to transfer to the 135g,but I want to try some simple corals,I heard mushrooms are good starter. The pump I got doesnt have any legible i.d. on it,I will probably upgrade in the future, did you say that a T fitting will increase head pressure, meaning less flow,so I should use a "Y" instead,is this correct? |

That would be correct using smaller pipe & more fittings than you need will do the same. use 45deg fittings instead of 90 deg fittings for less restriction. |

| Re: Plumbing Question??? JoJo this is a hijack but I wouldn't kill your closed loop at night. First the flow at the reef stays pretty much the same at night. Second I would be concerned with stagnant water in plumbing for closed loop. I know a canister shut off for a few hours stinks real bad. |
