| Star Polyps | eductor pics Hello everybody, here's the pics I promised..... this pic shows the completed eductor. I used one 11/4" mpt to slip adaptor and one 11/4" coupler, I cut the coupler in half and glued them together I then drillled 8 3/8" holes all the way around. This thing realy works well, It sucked our cucumber right in so we had to remove him. RIP!

| Star Polyps | more eductor pics here is a pic of two barb fittings the one on the bottom is the one you don't want it doesn't have enough "mating" surface to grind so it won't fit into the eductor and the output pipe at the same time. this is a close up of how much I had to grind away to make it fit into the eductor, I used a Dremel tool to do it but you could use a file or sandpaper. You don't have to take much material off to make it fit. ![]() this is the completed eductor. ![]()

| Scopas Tang | I found the answer to our questions in another one of your posts. If you look at the picture you can see how it's mounted. http://www.reefsanctuary.com/forums/...=&postid=22898 Don what are you using to pump to the educator ? I've always seen high pressure pumps in the past. Last edited by johnlewis : 01-18-2004 at 10:43 AM. |

| Star Polyps | middletonmark, you insert the threaded end of the barb adaptor into your output, the surface just to the left of the grinded part fits into the 1" elbow with a little resistance. So it stays in place. Troy, As soon as Teri gets out of the shower I'll have her take a pic at that angle for ya..... But don't hold your breath... if ya know what I mean. Scooterman, Actually it doesn't thread into anything, the flat spot to the left of of the reworked area slides right into the 1" elbow perfectly.... I don't know if this will work with other sizes, you'll have to experiment.

| Manta Ray ![]() | Hey guys, Correct me if I'm wrong Don, But the threaded end is what connects to your water source , (sump return etc) the part w/ the holes faces into the aquarium. The way eductors work is by "multiplying" the water flow. They do this by drawing water in thru the holes and adding it to the return flow. The idea is just like the Tunze streams, a flow of more volume, than velocity. I've never used on but my understanding is that they generally require pumps that can handle more back pressure...Although I'm not really sure how this design would do that, since it seems a little different than the other eductor shapes I've seen. This is good stuff Don!!!! Thanks, Nick Nick
