Re: new project, filtration advice please.

...would you consider doing something to the four posts so that they don't look like just plain 2x4's slapped on to the sides?...maybe grinding the profile to something thinner?
maybe like the edge of a flying saucer and the tops coming up to a point that supports a lid thats lighted on the underside so that it apears to glow from within...oops sorry if I'm getting carried away

I say shape it like the Washington Monument, an obelisk! Make sure you put a blinking light at the apex to warn passing planes!

Help, help help....Leak!!!!!

Ok so you can all start laughting now................IT LEAKS. :smck:

The pressure at 7 feet depth poped the 20mm thick perspex sides out of there seat in the frame uprights. The silicon held although the panel moved out a full 5mm, bloody good stuff realy, but still got a few leaks.
Anyone know of anything thats pourable and bonds to acrilic?
Thinking of resin or epoxy.......... I'll tip the tank on its side and pour it down the corners after popping the panel back in place and making that more secure.
Don't surpose theres anything like pourable silicon?

did you silicone the plexi to the wood? if that is the case then the difference in expansion rates will always cause a leak somewhere down the line

Wood was encapsulated in resin first, so no expansion there. Also along the line of maximium force the wood is 5" deep so its never going to bend it that direction.

Re: new project, filtration advice please.

That's too bad. It really did look like it was going to hold water at the very least. Well, back to the ole drawing board. BTW, throughout history many geniuses were laughed at.

Other than live rock, Hair algae, and cyano bacteria, what do you plan in the way of livestock to you plan to put in this tank. Please excuse me if I have missed the purpose of this tank(?).

Re: new project, filtration advice please.

can you re-do it all over and this time use some sort of brace to physicaly hold the plexi in place like a small metal channel or maybe even if you take a saw and cut a channel into the wood suports for the plastic to sit into and then silicone?

Re: new project, filtration advice please.

The wood can still be there as decorative trim and to conceal the LEDs.

Aw that stinks. I was anxiously waiting to see how this turned out, Now I have to wait more.
Unfortunately I don't have any advice just sympathy. This is a very interresting project and I would love to see it work.

Thats what i did, the uprights have channels routed into them but i put too much silicone in to one and the acrilic sheet did,nt go far enougth in, thats why it moved under pressure and poped out of the channel.
