| Tubeworm | Comments - Sump/Refugium Design Can you give me some feedback on my design? My display tank is a 70g Oceanic and the Sump is a 29g All-Glass. I will also have a 175w HQI Halide, 65x2 PC, 80lbs live rock. Right now I have 2 fish and a couple baby size anemones. My goal is to maybe do a few soft corals and a few more fish. (Medium-Bioload) |

| Torch coral | Re: Comments - Sump/Refugium Design So you go from tank to skimmer to sump w/ live rock then from there to a refugium and back to the tank passing through a UV? Why not just put the refugium and the sump in the same section and then put the return pump in the section to right and then from there to UV to tank?

| Tubeworm | Re: Comments - Sump/Refugium Design The design is similar to melevsreef.com. Correct, the design is to allow the refugium to operate at a slower flow rate. I might actually split input from the tank to the skimmer and refugium so the detritus coming from the display can be of use to the refugium. As far as the UV, I do not plan to run it, it is just plumbed for emergencies to control any potential outbreaks. |

| Serpent Star | Re: Comments - Sump/Refugium Design I like it as well....I would go with a mag 9.5 or larger if you can. As for the thought of dumping directly into the refuge, I would use a filter sock/pad to keep the junk out. Just keep it cleaned/replaced often. Its worth it to me to keep the carpet fibers, dust, and food out of the tank. Also, try and go with two delivery lines from the tank, just in case one gets a clog or you want to increase flow later...I am glad i did!! Steve

| Tubeworm | Re: Comments - Sump/Refugium Design Steve - So you are saying two separate lines going to the 1st chamber(skimmer)? Wouldn't that be too much flow for the overflow in the tank? I think the oceanic is plumbed with a 1" pipe(not sure - don't have it yet) ? I will keep the Mag 9.5 in mind, right now I just got a good deal on a Mag 7, so I hope that will do for a little while. Thanks for the suggestions. |
