| Has been struck by the ban stick | Plumbing Sump/refugium When I get rich I plan on plumbing my sump/refugium. I will be using an overflow box with 1400gph using PVC piping down to the sump/refugium and the water will pass through three baffles into the sump section. I plan on using a mag 9 or bigger submersible pump for return to the tank. Do I use 1" pvc piping for the return as well? Can I hook sea swirls to this or put a spray bar across the tank? I cannot drill the tank. It is an 80 gallon reef tank. Here is a pic of the sump: |

| Scopas Tang ![]() | When I originally got my Mag 9.5 I used 1 inch PVC (if my memory is working). It worked out well, except I couldn't get the vibrations down to make it quiet enough, so I went with vinyl tubing for much of the plumbing. It's much quieter now, but I'm not sure how this influenced the flow rate. I don't see why you couldn't do the sea swirls or the spray bar...maybe both? The Mag 9.5 packs some pretty good punch...I've had no probs with it, and it's submersed, for over a year now. HTH -RY

| Scopas Tang ![]() | Oh, be sure to attach a ball valve or other device just in case you need to throttle it back a bit. -RY
