GE-Silicone I is it safe?

Hello,

Last Night I bulid my sump w/ refugium. I used GE Silicone I for Window and Door. It's curing right now. But I can't help asking myself if it's safe. Has anyone used this product before on aquariums?

Thanks,

DJPJ

i say this as my best advice to a beginner. do not,,,and i repeat,,,,,DO NOT look at my tank as an example....i have a well practised eye, decades of experience, and a trunkload of failures to allow me to force the issue and get away with things most cannot~

If I remember correctely that one is fine. The one for kitchens and bath with the mildew inhibitors is not safe.

Re: GE-Silicone I is it safe?

I used GE kitchen and bath I... BIG mistake, mold inhibators. It was even 100%. W and D is good, no inhibators.

Cool Re: GE-Silicone I is it safe?

I was just about to buy the GE silicone at my local "Home Labyrinth", until I noticed on the back in VERY tiny print something like -- NOT FOR USE IN APPLICATIONS REGULATED BY THE FDA, OR AQUARIUMS.

So I just found some 100% Aquarium silicone at Walmart for only a couple bucks in their fish dept.! :

Re: GE-Silicone I is it safe?

Look at the label. It should say "100% silastic silicone". If it has any kind of mold inhibitors, it won't be 100% silicone...IIRC, Silicone I IS safe for use in aquariums, but Silicone II isn't...
