I've heard just about the same thing. On something like a Tunze stream that I understand run on DC current ... much more feasible [thus their ability to flow at different rates] ... but for A/C I've heard that it's mostly a bunch of hooey.

I'm not an electrician, tho ...

Not something you would find in a $100 wave maker. So, for all intensive purposes, disregard it.
Good info dood, makes me think where my $$$$$ went on mine ...... probably just advertising BS that made me spend my money

I just had to reply to this... it's a bunch of hooey. I have a rheostat inline with an AC fan (check out the equipment and setup photo gallery) and it does indeed slow down and speed up the motor, not just 'heat it up'. I always love people's 'anecdotal' evidence (i.e. they've never tried it, but it sounds good, so they profess it as fact).

Also, MaxiJet powerheads don't need a 'soft-start' wavemaker, since their impellar is centrifugally driven (a built-in 'soft-start' feature). I've been running 4 MJ-1200s on a NaturalWave timer for almost a year now and all are still working fine.

HTH.

While you may indeed be correct, What can be stated with a great deal of certainty is that you are quite rude and condescending. Your parents must be so proud.

Uh... I wasn't referring to 'you', but to the original person that posted that at ReefCentral...

Sorry if you thought I was saying that you're full of it...
That wasn't my intention... you were just reposting information that you came across... and that is what I was replying to.

The thing works just as I had hoped, plus the fact that it was 29 bucks makes it even better.
