scwd's

is it possible to make your own scwd? I mean the ones i sea on the internet are expensive ranging between 36.99 up to 42.99. So i want to know if there is a cheaper way to do this. I don't even have to have the switching current i just want a current splitter but i can't seem to find any, anywhere.

please help...

Re: scwd's

Shane, don't take this wrong, but if you think $40. is expensive, you MIGHT be in the wrong hobby. We're all in favor of DIY'ing things to save money, but something like this isn't gonna be easy or cheap to build, and really, $40. is just a drop in the bucket in reef tanks. You should figure somewhere in the $30-$50/ gallon range for a total cost of building and stocking a reef...
If all you want is to split the current from a pump, then PVC with a "TEE" and 90's would accomplish that...

Re: scwd's

thanks BoomerD. I know that 40 dollars in this hobby isn't expensive. just expensive for a piece of plastic with a thing in it to switch the current.

I never thought of the pvc thing, thanks

Re: scwd's

Everything in this hobby is expensive. You put the word "aquarium" or "reef" with a product. and the price doubles...Kind of like buying parts for a boat...Have you ever seen what the SCWD actually is?

Re: scwd's

Here's where they got us CheapSkates. Making your own device like a scwd or other device using a motor to switch flow direction are either so bulky or to expensive. Keeping it from leaking and obtaining salt safe valves and fittings is what's difficult. An Ocean'sMotion unit is nothing more than a couple machined pieces of ABS plastic a couple of O rings and a small motor! Of course You can throw down a couple of bills on a fancy controller, then cough up the rest of your credit limit on the PH's required.
It just ain't right!
