Re: Automatic Power backup

Very interesting.. power loss is always on my mind and what would happen to the reef, something to really plan for..

Re: Automatic Power backup

the inverter used is the Tripplite APS512 (612 and 1012), which associate with their continuous wattage of 120V ouput (500, 600 or 1000).

Re: Automatic Power backup

Great Info Witty.....Thurs. May 11 we started have power problems in the valley I live in, I was at work and the power would shut down for an hour then come back on for two and then back off....I took off work to monitor my tanks (75 gal and 5 gal nano) the next day the power situation got worst, at 11 am the power went out and stayed off for over eight hours, by chance a few weeks before, I had bought a 3.5Kw gas powered generator, this thing has 120V and 220V both at 20A on board, I also had a couple of jerry cans of fuel....I was able to keep both tanks circulating and my air conditioner on to keep the temp. down......I found out yesterday that my LFS was totally desimated, they did not have any power back up and lost all thier fresh and salt water animals (fish and corals).....Man do I feel lucky, just a few short weeks ago I had nothing in case of an emergancy.

Re: Automatic Power backup

Let me know how it goes...my solution isn't automatic, so I'm interested on how well it works.

Re: Automatic Power backup

good read...i have already been thinking about getting a UPS before i read this article...a couple hours of back up i think will give me plenty of time to get home and run my portable generator if it goes past that.
