My 120gal. DIY stand project

My 120 is on the way so I started building the stand. Its going to be a 48L x 24W x 24H 120 gal with a 40 breeder sump below. I have the framing done, time to do the electrical & make it pretty next. I will have more pictures as it progresses.

Thanks Witful. Im going to cover it with 1/4" pine & finish it the same as the pine trim in the house... The painters at work told me what type water resistant stain to use, but I have forgotten...Ill ask again tommorow.

Re: My 120gal. DIY stand project

Here is an update...I decided to put a cabinet on one end to hold test kits ect. below the cabinet will be room for the ext pump. & the door makes much easier access to it as well. I got the outside skinned & trimmed(still have some touch up to do). Next will be sealing the interior so I can run the PVC conduit & can be wired. I was going to have outlets on the outside of the cabinet for lights & power heads but have decided to build a canopy in the future & ill have it wired for those items. The doors will be made with the same waynescoat paneling.

Law, that's inspiration in the making. How tall is the sump you're putting at the bottom? Keep up the good work.

Im using a 40 breeder..36L X 18W X 16H. I have 25" to the bottom of the upper 2x6 joist so there is plenty of room. I built the doors over the weekend & they turned out nice, Ill get pics up later.

I am having the overflows both placed on the one short end of the tank being it will be veiwed from 3 sides & I think it is going to take awhile for AGA to get the tank to me. So things might stall here after awhile Still have to stain everything & do the electrical. Also thought about making a matching storage cabinet for supplies but boy is lumber expensive right now!. More to come thanks for the good comments

Will do Woodstock LOL, Someone actually sent me a PM asking if I would be interested in making them one...told them no way!! Racing(my other expensive hobby) season is coming & I have to get ready for that. Besides with the cost of the material (estimate $350) & as many hours (40 plus by the time its done) as I have invested the price would have to be very high. I was able to get a coat of stain on tonight ,,but still no pics.

Re: My 120gal. DIY stand project

You are an inspiration. I am getting ready to take on the diy of a sump and the stand for my 80 gallon that I just inherited. The stand it is on is cheap at best. Something as awesome as a saltwater tank deserves much better. Yours looks great!!
