Re: Who's currently growing frags?

Right now I only have a 30g prop tank. I did have 3 60g breeders set up in my garage but the heat was too much and I can't afford a chiller. One of these days I plan on making a fish room in my garage just for propagation

Re: Who's currently growing frags?

My situation was the same as Doni's. I would thin my main display tank and spread the wealth. With just a 20 gallon micro, not much to thin.

Re: Who's currently growing frags?

I just started my frag tank! made it out of glass 24"lx19"wx12"h, i know its a weird size but this is the space i had to place it hence the tank had to be made. My first homemade frag tank ever and it works great. using vho for lighting. I frag my sps mostly.

Cool aquarium! I've never seen a return come through the bottom like that. It's difficult to tell from the picture... is it framed with something?

sorry this is really late. I made it out of glass precut at glass shop, put it together with silicone and I trimmed it with some plastic trim stuff I found at home Depot. I made the return in the center because of space constraints. The sump return is on the back side which goes behind the tank. Works great so far. For more info visit: http://mmota.homestead.com/propagation.html
Thanks

Re: Who's currently growing frags?

I have been propagating SPS for about a year now. I have a 90 gallon 48x48x12 truview acrylic tank plumbed into my display system. It's lit with 2- 250 phoenix 14k DE bulbs in the ROIII reflectors. I will try and get a pic up in the next day or two. I sell them on a small scale basis as well as trade to LFS for supplies.

Hi CAReefer, I am shipping my first frags ever. I hope they make it ok. My tank has just started to grow out and I trim the corals as I see they need it. Call me crazy but I think of my reef as a garden and I trim the corals so as to help them grow the way I would like them to grow. Maybe I am overly obsessed, lol But really I do the same thing mostly lfs for credit and some people I may trade or sell them for less than most are selling them for. Just less hassle for me than shipping them.

Re: Who's currently growing frags?

Mopecula, The only advice I can share is double bag, tape a 20 hr heat pack to the lid of the styrofoam inner box, and use FedEx, Ups has dropped the ball twice out of the 5 I have sent out.

Thanks for the advice and thats exactly what I am going to do. But with all the hassle I really feel shipping corals like this is really not worth it especially for what you get I rather get credit at lfs or trade with other reefers locally.

Re: Who's currently growing frags?

mopecula do you visit The Coral Reef in Seekonk ? Jeremy gives ya a very fair deal on frags. IME I would avoid shipping anything mid winter, I have had very bad experiences and just totally avoid avoid them now.
