Shipping Out Questions

I made my first coral sale a few hours ago and will be shipping out monday, the order consists of a fairly large leather, 4-5 Zoa frags, and some mushrooms. I was wondering what is the best way to package stuff up, how do you make sure nothing gets beat up in route? Any links would be helpful too, preferably with pictures. I just dont want the leather to get crushed by the rock its attached to.

Re: Shipping Out Questions

Use styrofoam to line your box with and use a heat pack or cold pack. Lots of newspaper.

Re: Shipping Out Questions

NOPE. SORRY. I don't think it will hurt the leather though. How are you shipping it? Overnight?

Re: Shipping Out Questions

Give the leather a chance to shrink before final packing. That will let you put the packing material (newspaper or whatever) in more closely. I know when my leather gets mad it shrinks to about 1/4 of the regular size so that may prevent some shipping stress.

We are going to do priority, that is how I got all the stuff and everything was just fine. About the leather shrinking, that was my plan, when mine does that it gets really really small.

Re: Shipping Out Questions

I ship in little plastic thermos bottles with heat packs in the box. I also ship overnight. US Post Office will usually do overnight for around $25 - $30. Ask them when the last truck leaves for the airport. Bring your coral to the post office about 30 minutes before the last truck heads out for the airport. That way your corals aren't in the bags all day at the post office. The least amount of time spent in the bags the better.

Re: Shipping Out Questions

The thermos can be purchased at WalMart or Target. About $3 each.

I put the coral in a snack size ziploc bag. Hold the bag under water and seal it up almost all the way. Then squeeze it until most of the water is out. You only need about 1/8 cup of water in the bag. Seal it up under the water so no air is in the bag. Fold the bag in half and make sure the coral and all the water is on one side.

You can get about 3 frags, maybe 4 frags in a thermos. Take the entire thermos and dunk it under water. Fill any space in the thermos with water. Screw the lid on under water. Now if a bag breaks, you still got water for the coral. Plus it helps to retain heat. More water the better.

The thermos is a little 4" wide x 4" tall soup thermos. Holds about 2 cups of liquid.

Pack it in a box with a bunch of newspaper and toss a couple hand warmers in there.

Thermos : Product : Snak Jarâ„¢ SJ300
