First fragging attemp, which Dremel bit?

I'm going to try and frag my duncan that has 22 heads. After some reading it sounds like using a dremel is the best tool. What kind of bit and at what speed do I cut through it? Currently I have some reinforced cut-off wheel bits for plastic, metal, and/or wood. Would these work and if so, do I put the dremel at high or low speed and do I cut through quickly or slowly? I'm sure producing too much heat from the bit is not a good thing, right?

Re: First fragging attemp, which Dremel bit?

I'm only guessing here but I'd use the metal/wood blade but honestly I don't think it's an exact science. I'd cut at a higher speed to reduce the amount of time/stress. It's probably just trial & error.

Take lots of pics... before.... during... after

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...currentNO3-((%WC*.01)currentNO3)=finalNO3 (thanks Luukosian)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

Re: First fragging attemp, which Dremel bit?

I will definitely take some pics of the process today. Camera battery is charging, but here are some shots about a month after I bought the frag when it had 7 heads (BTW, I only paid $35). Back then, I had it placed in a hole in my LR, but have moved it to the sandbed.

Al- I've also included a pic of it after I target fed it some mysis.

Re: First fragging attemp, which Dremel bit?

Here is a pic of the Duncan before fragging. It's grown 15 heads since March.

The heads were really close together, so kind of hard to find good places to cut.
Green line was first cut, yellow line was second cut, and purple line was third cut.

Re: First fragging attemp, which Dremel bit?

Here is the first frag-11 heads.

Picture of all 4 frags.

All are back in the sandbed (see pic) After about 1 hour the heads are beginning to open up.

Very nice. Thanks again for sharing! How hard were they to cut? Looks like it went pretty easily.

Re: First fragging attemp, which Dremel bit?

It was very easy. I ended up using a dremel with a reinforced cut-off wheel. No problems, no heat, not even messy. I hope future attempts at fragging any of my coral will be this easy. I'll post a pic of the frags tomorrow. They are all completely open. Hopefully I'll see the same growth from these.

you made it look easy... did any of the duncans "ooze" anything out when you cut through them?

Re: First fragging attemp, which Dremel bit?

They are pretty slimy, but nothing "oozed" from them when I cut through. I did have the dremel on high speed and used a little bit of pressure.

Wonderful.
If they are all opened already you have done a great job.

Sorry I haven't posted any updated pics of the frags all opened up. I've been really busy lately, but I'll try to get some up in the next couple of days.
