Who has a frag tank and why?

What is everyones reason for having a frag tank? Lets see some pics of your frag tank while your at it!

I will start by saying that having a frag tank will help reduce the amount of human interaction on the natural reefs. Many of my corals were picked up off the natural reef, so if I grow a few extra polyps and give them away, or sell them for cheap, I know I will be doing nature a favor.

I have a 20g long with 130w of PC light. currently there is nothing in there because I just sold everything

I'm planning a small one down the road as well. Some time after I get the 90 finished.

Re: Who has a frag tank and why?

The reason I decided to incorporate a frag tank into my plans was becuse the reefclub that I am a member of routinely swap frags at every meeting and they also hold a large frag swap once a year ...so for me it was more of a social decision.

heres mine being built ...

Re: Who has a frag tank and why?

I have a 10g Frag tank. It's got 130W fixture over it.

The reason: Well I started in this hobby with that tank. Then I finally upgraded to my 90g set-up. Initially I had planned to take the 10g down when the 90g was "functional" but then decided to use it as a grow-out/frag tank. Once I added the 130w light fixture my corals took off like crazy. So I figured "Make hay while the sun is shining".

Started out like this..

then grew into this...

I need to get some more recent pics... maybe after my weekly water change (tomorrow night) I'll try to take some recent pics.

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...currentNO3-((%WC*.01)currentNO3)=finalNO3 (thanks Luukosian)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

Where can I find plugs to fit in egg crate?
Do they make them that small?

You can make them yourself! You can either use some LR rubble, or you can get some egg cartons and fill each individual egg spot with some of the reef friendly concrete, let it cure for a bit then you will have a half egg shaped frag plug!

And, as for pics of my frag tank. Here are a few pics of when I had coral in there. Since then, I have also made a few modifications.

Here is the tank below the 40g breeder:

And here are a few frags:
