fraggin a fungia

anyone ever done it? is it possible? will it spread on its own.

i have a BEAUTIFUL orange fungia that has graced my tank for over a year now and grown at least 2" in diameter. what i want to know is how can i make more!!!

i have fragged : torch corals, xenia (who hasn't) colt corals, shrooms (regular and ricordias) and acro's, but i don't even know where to start with this guy and don't want to hurt him. i was thinking of just trying to cut him down the middle (like a shroom) and see what happens but i don't want to lose one of my main corals in my tank.

any advice would be great

AND in the current month's "issue" of Reefkeeping.com.

Fragging Fungia how to.

Personally, I would feel... odd... taking a saw to coral.

Re: fraggin a fungia

It would be fun to see a picture of your fungia so we can all see!

I have an orange fungia which is pretty, but a friend has an obnoxiosly orange fungia. I have never seen such a bright orange fungia. If yours is so bright too, I'd love a frag sometime!

Beautiful. My favorite lfs has a maroon one that looks very similar. I keep debating if I should buy it or not. I got to watch him feed it today and that was pretty cool.

Re: fraggin a fungia

Daveat, I feed mine occasionally. Come to think of it, when I wasn't feeding it (up to about 2 months ago), it didn't have the tentacle extension that it has now. You are probably on to something! Wow! 5-6 inches. That's awesome!

Here's a picture of my pink fungia.

I don't think I would have the guts to cut it.

Re: fraggin a fungia

both of those are quite nice as well, although they look like they are "supposed" to be considered a long tentacle plate. i would really love to have a pink one like that.

i stil have yet to decide if i have the heart to cut mine. i think i might try cutting off just a small peice on one side and see what happens

Mine I believe is a Fungia cycloseris and robinscp's looks to be a Fugia Cycloroseris Erosa.
