Re: fraggin a fungia

unable to post pics tonight but i assure all of you who wanted to try it that both peices are doing excellent, a took my circular fungia and took a small pie shaped peice (roughly 1" by 1" by 1") out of the edge. i did not cut all the way to the center just an inch in.

before cutting i convinced the coral to close up as much as possible. i then did all of the cutting with a cheap dremel and a $15 diamond dremel cut off wheel (lowes). i was amazed at how smooth of a cut it gave me and did the entire cut while the coral was partially submerged in a bowl of tank water. the article tells you to cut part way through and then do the rest with fragging sheers but i found that it cut through very nicely and gave me a super smooth cut that i hope will take less time to heal fully than what a jagged frag sheer cut would leave

p.s. dentoid please hand over the scalpel and i will gladly remove any excess corals you need!!!!

Cool! Be sure to keep us updated. I am very curious to find out if they both do well long term.

Re: fraggin a fungia

Here's a shameless plug. The issue of Reefkeeping you referenced
(Jan 07 ) includes a picture of my green zoas on the "cover".

I know this has nothing to do with the subject of this thread,
but noone around here gets how pumped I was when they asked
to use it.

Sorry, now back to your regularly scheduled program.

Re: fraggin a fungia

had to try dentoid!..

both corals are doing very well today, i moved the small peice down to one of my 10ga frag tanks as it has more light than my show tank (makes sense right?) both peices have totally covered the "wound" with fresh tissue.

spanglish - congrats on your zoa's being in the reefkeeping issue

Re: fraggin a fungia

when cutting any sps especially make sure you keep the cut edges in good strong flow to prevent infection/detritus collection and often placing the cut pieces back in same spot they came from (after soaking in water for 30-45 minutes to let them slime away-keeps other tank inhabitants happier) to minimize stress
