Re: How do you tell if an Acro is dead?

if they lighter/white parts are near the base, that's not uncommon. it could be from shading, ie. that part of the coral is receiving less light.

if you look at the undersides of branches of established acro colonies, they are always lighter than the tops.

good score! that body type grows slow... it's not humilis, but something close, i think. so don't be discouraged if it takes a while to get new growth going.

Re: How do you tell if an Acro is dead?

Well im not sure if the acro is making it.. It is def. getting lighter in color and more brown.. Im hoping some of it will come back. If nothing else it makes a nice chair for my hawk fish... Its still up in the air if its gonna pull through

Re: How do you tell if an Acro is dead?

you might have it up too high.

it looked perfectly healthy in that picture. it wasn't dying when you brought it home.

how is your DKH?

it could be becoming irritated by the perching... not much you can do about that though. maybe move it lower in the tank. most sps need acclimating to light again after being shipped in dark bags for a week.

i always start all my coral on the bottom of the tank, and then move them up as we go.

Re: How do you tell if an Acro is dead?

You can tell if an acro is dead by smelling it. They have a very distinct smell out of the water when alive. It looks to me like some I've seen that suffered RTN in a high phosphate environment, they turn green and smell more like algae than acro. Live acro's stink.

Re: How do you tell if an Acro is dead?

I have found the best thing to do with coral about to die is frag whatever healthy parts are left and start over. I have a few small colonies I started with a tiny 1/4 nub I cut off the almost dead mother. Sometimes it works, sometimes not, but it's worth a try.
