Bangaii Pair's First Clutch VIDEO

Here is a short (2:20) video of one of my Bangaii Pair's first clutch. I was surprised to see this yesterday as I thought they were too young still. The parents are CB from ORA so, that means mine will be 2nd Gen Captive Bred!

Bangaii Cardinal First Clutch

Be sure to pay attention during the egg juggling scene, it is in slow motion so you can see the eggs (reddish pink) in his mouth. The female kept trying to get him to take more eggs, but I think he was done with it!

Enjoy!

Re: Bangaii Pair's First Clutch VIDEO

Thanx for the comments! By the time the eggs hatch, they will be separated from any and all predators...

I like doing the videos, takes me back to previous careers many, many, many... moons ago!

Enjoy!

Well they hold the eggs about 21 days or so. The hatch in about 15-18 and then the papa holds them a little longer and releases them. They are big enough for BBS when they are released. He does not eat during this time. That is why feed high protien foods is very important for them.

On a sad note, he spit about 10-15 eggs yesterday...today I couldn't tell if he spit the rest or not. Will check tomorrow.

As I said it is their FIRST ever clutch so I can forgive him. He still did not eat tonight, so he may still have some in there.

Infanticide is not uncommon in the animal kingdom, excluding humans, during first timer propogation. There is no way to know if somehow he knew the eggs were infertile or had some other defect. Fascinating stuff none the less. Hope there are a few eggs and eventual frye!

Re: Bangaii Pair's First Clutch VIDEO

Papa spit 5 babies today. I guess that is all he could hang on to being a new daddy and all

No they are not. The male had not eaten in a few weeks and it did not look like he was still holding. He was not puffed out at all around the mouth so I got concerned that he was just not eating. I captured him and moved him to a specimen container and while I was examining him, he spit out two babies right into my hand! I worked with him until I had all 5. He then ate a HUGE meal of PE Mysis before returning to his tank and his lovely female. The babies are still in the container with an airstone and decaps (hatchng) bbs.

She will be trying to get eggs back into his mouth in the next coulple of days so I need to fatten him up before then.

Thanx! Woodstock!
