Wow! I like! As many know on these boards I'm "PRO-LED". It's the wave of the future and a very "Green" item for our systems. I'm going to check it out and see what I can turn up. Sounds like a FUN project!!

Live Rock Rubble will do the SAME thing as Bio-Balls and is NOT a suitable replacement for BIO-BALLS in a Reef System! It's ALL gotta go!!

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...currentNO3-((%WC*.01)currentNO3)=finalNO3 (thanks Luukosian)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

Just through the prototyping and now with this one about 3 months. I will say that in dealing with moving corals around a lot they seemed to handle the different light changes I threw at the m very well.

I recently moved the test tank into my store once we took the light "public" so anyone in the area can stop in and see it.

BTW, from me experience the solaris LED units suck which makes me hesitant with leds. The solaris bulbs die relatively fast and fade even faster. plus their fans stopped workin, it was a mess.

I currently have a Monti Undata in the tank (just infront of the hammer in the pic) I have also had several other sps under them. All showed normal polyp extension and new growth as well.

Regarding failures of other systems: I agree with Al (PFO has excellent CS)

Our bulb is simple, that is one of the best things about it. No moving parts to fail. The heatsink does a tremendous job of removing heat away from the bulb plate. Heat is what makes LED's fail. If you can't get rid of the heat you have no chance at a long term LED light.

Re: AquariumLED - Replace your 175w MH

Yea that makes sense with the heat. The lights were not mine personally. Where i work we have them and left and right bulbs are going. In random spots too. Must have a minimum of 15 out on the 72" unit with onle 2 of 4 fans working. O and i forgot one of the ballast just blew and so only 2/3 of the lights work now. And the unit is no older than 6 months.

I would say that was from heat. That is why we have a 2 year full replacement warranty. If any of the LED's fail to burn in the first 2 years we replace the entire bulb. (excluding water damage of course)

Stephen that sounds GREAT!

You're 100% correct on LED failure vs heat. Keep em cool and they will last a long longg longggg time. Of course this goes the same for anything electronic.
ded heatsink should help a lot. The quicker you can get the heat into the air away from the unit the better.

Thanks, getting the heat away from the bulbs was the biggest hurdle. They are $369.95 - Total cost over 5 years is under $450.00 and that includes the bulb! (dependent on your elec. rates of course.) Here they are about 1.25/mo using the kwh calculator.
