Star Coral Health

I have a 72 gallon bow front with a compact light and a sump pump. I recently got 2 bar gobies and they decided to burrow near my star coral. The coral closed up 2 days ago and has not opened back up. I moved the coral with no success. I checked my water and it was PH 8.0, Nitrite .25,Nitrate 0-5.0, Ammonia .25, I did a 9 gallon water change since I have recently added 6 fish after this tank cycling. Everything that I have is reef safe (4 gobies, 2firefish, 3damsels, 2 coral banded shrimp and 2 chromas. I have notices some tentacles on either end and wonder if I have an agressive coral or anenome growing on this same piece. I have been feeding 2 times a day and the coral shares this plankton with a feather duster, montipora coral and a pulsing zenia.

i say this as my best advice to a beginner. do not,,,and i repeat,,,,,DO NOT look at my tank as an example....i have a well practised eye, decades of experience, and a trunkload of failures to allow me to force the issue and get away with things most cannot~

Re: Star Coral Health

It was never buried, just had sand thrown at it. The zenia has been the one that changes in levels of activity. The star has been so dependable that it was a bit of a suprise. I will watch to see what it does. What was wierd to me is the rock it had been near had some star coral that had grown on it and that star coral was open ( the new growth I would think would be more delicate)

Re: Star Coral Health

The coral started opening today. I think that it was just pissy from the dirt getting tossed on it. I was scheduled for the water change so that was done anyways

Re: Star Coral Health

How long has your tank been established??? seems that your levels might be creeping up on you...also your PH is a little low....Six fish added to your tank at one time with that size water collumn seems like a heavy Bio load...I would keep an eye on you levels and try and get them to drop a bit more.
