My brain is shrinking!

I picked up this piece when I got my bubble tip anemone because it was attached to it and the guy at the LFS was not to gentle when starting to try and separate the two. So I said just give me both. Well the BTA found a new perch, but the brain seems to be receding. There is some algae I can't seem to get off of it and the areas on the perimeter of the flesh are turning white and disappearing. What can I do? will it ever come back and reclaim the territory it once occupied? Also, the LFS identified this as Purple Tip Diploastrea. Is that correct? Below is a pic.

Also, can anyone help identify the other inhabitants of the rock that look like flowers with a green center and pink "petals"? Upper right of the rock you can see one or two.

Re: My brain is shrinking!

When I have a stony coral "Receding" like that I'll usually frag it, give it an IODINE dip and try to save what I can.

The "Mystery" inhabitant sounds like "Green Star Polyp". Google it and see if that looks right.

Live Rock Rubble will do the SAME thing as Bio-Balls and is NOT a suitable replacement for BIO-BALLS in a Reef System! It's ALL gotta go!!

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...currentNO3-((%WC*.01)currentNO3)=finalNO3 (thanks Luukosian)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

How old is the tank?

What are your water test results?

What type of light?

What size tank?

Re: My brain is shrinking!

I have the 34 Gal Red Sea Max with stock lighting. Test results have been OK. I am using tap water until I can get a RO/DI. I don't have tests for calcium, but am taking some water to the LFS for them to test out.

My brain started shrinking the instant I got married. It's amazing how stupid I got once she had that piece of paper in her hands.
