Re: Sun Coral Feeding Help

I have heard of some colonies not opening for days after acclimation. Some open right away. It's not unusual for it to take weeks actually. I don't cage mine simply because of the way the colony is situated in the tank and I can't physically do it. I use a small baster (med doser from the childrens care section at the pharmacy) and mix DT's phyto with some homemade meaty mush and dust the coral then guard it with a plastic spoon for a few minutes while he eats. It's a PITA but it works.

I have my suncorals in caves or under a ledge....they open up about twice a day...feeding i use phyto and cycopleeze.

add some phyto to the water and you'll see the polyps extend...then give them some mysis

Re: Sun Coral Feeding Help

I really don't know if it's a good thing or not, but I've been feeding mine pellets... they sink well and when they hit the polyps, the coral extends and eats everything that is in reach.

Re: Sun Coral Feeding Help

I feed mine when ever they're open, I find if I put them under ledges and in the shade, they open up during the day as well...

Re: Sun Coral Feeding Help

I just got a few sun coral the other day, I'm feeding it the Coral Frenzie stuff at night.

Mine only seem to open at night and when the white light shuts off in the evening.

Do you think this will change in a week or two?

I also got some black sun coral, are the the same care as in feeding, light etc??

Thanks

Here is a night shot with my little LED flashlight...
