zoathids, how in the world...

Do these occur in such wild array of colours? I really want to know? They're hardy and beautiful and they come in all shapes and sizes and colours and everyone who owns them seems like they own a different kind. Are these cultured in captivity? Kind of like cross-polenating(sp?) ?

I'm tuning in as well!

I do believe this is just another example of Mother Natures infinite diversity.

When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend and they are. They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered and now it is time to move on.

I believe that zoanthids form different color morphs as they split and grow. I know that several of the large colonies that I have have different variations of the same zoo. In particular a orange skirt and blue center zoo that I have has several that came out to be orange skirt blue center and orange mouth. As they divide they morph into different color variations, as far as I understand.

Also realize that as you go from tank to tank the lighting is different and they can "morph" out of survival of the fittest. It's been noted several times recently that corals caught in the wild will Morph and become spectacular due to variances in lighting and flow.

I just call it "MAGIC"

Re: zoathids, how in the world...

What I've recently been doing was this: I just collected a bunch of rare zoas from friends and purchases. Some are rare and some are pretty typical. I glued a bunch of them together on the same rock. I don't think I'll see anything special for a little while BUT...it's worth experimenting.

I have a bunch of zoa's and palys all over the tank high light, low light, different flow areas. They morph a lot. They will morph depending on lighting. And some even look different under different flow. Some might have long skirts and some shorts skirts.

Re: zoathids, how in the world...

Hey Kyrie, I did that with a couple I have, put two types on the same rock. Haven't done more yet. I just did it for variety, but now I'll have to see if the same ones look different in different spots or with different neighbors. Don't have a ton of variation just yet, browns, greens, oranges, but I just got some sweet pink/purple ones from somebody here. Don't think I'll try separating any of those yet for quite a while until they settle in a good month or two.

Re: zoathids, how in the world...

they come in many diff. colors naturally.

things that vary are size, skirt and color. all of which can "morph" depending on where they're kept.

flow, light intensity, temp, alk, ph, all sorts of stuff can cause the zoos to change.

but most zoos are like women...

beauty is a God given talent
