Ummm... is this what I think it is?

If so I expect someone to drop $200 rather quickly...

Give me $200.00 Travis and I will be more than happy to buy it! Shoot, I'll even frag it and give you a few polyps!

How does someone with an untrained eye tell the difference between an acan and a favia? To me they all look the same?

Gina, if you look at the corals when they kind of shrivel up, the favias will have "ridges" around the edges of the corallite wall. The Acan's have more spikey corallites.
Look at number two. Look in the red sections of the coral and you see a smooth line that goes from the red into the green. that is a give away it is a favia or related genus.
If you look at the first specimen it has the more spikey structures like one would find in most mussidae.

I agree Gina, it is hard and mps made a logical explanation to me. I only know the second one, cause I have one, and that type of favia is still somewhat rare.
