| Sunshine Reefer ![]() | Bluespot bummer I went to the LFS yesterday and saw two bluespots there for the first time in a long time. The first one I saw looked horrible. I wanted to try to rescue him but it just didn't make sense. As Frank said what makes me think he would have a better chance here? His fins were all tattered and he was breathing heavy and very skinny. So we continued through the store and I saw another one. This one was beautiful. No panting. No frayed fins. Great color. Talked to the owner and he got them almost 2 weeks ago. Did the puppy dog eyes thing until I talked him into buying it for me for our upcoming anniversary. So all excited I start talking to the owner some more. Meanwhile I am staring at the fish and thinking about cleaning the sand I bought and never added so it would have a nice new home in my 90g tank. Right before we told the guy we would take him. Frank has to go get all logical on me and asked the owener to feed him before we buy. He just sat there while the brine shrimp bounced off of his head. I am so depressed and so suprised that Frank was the logical one about buying a fish. Usually he is the one that buys without researching etc. This time my love of bluespots got in the way of all the good rules I know so well. So obviously we left him at the store with a very sad Lynn. Frank said I could check back next week and if he still looks good I can see if he eats then. I so hope he is still there and will eat for me. I didn't realize how much I want another one until a beautiful fish was right in front of me. Anyway just had to share with my bluespot buddies. I really feel sad about the first one though. He didn't look like he had any chance at all.

| Plate Coral | Re: Bluespot bummer That's too bad, it's sad to see that. I almost got a BSJF a few months back but it got eaten by some crazy octopus nem while the LFS guys was trying to net it for me. I really like your idea of making sure they eat first. I do quite a bit of research on fish before I put them in my tank but never bother to see if they'll eat because I'm just so happy to finally find a fish on my list that I just get it. I suppose I'll have to follow Frank's good advice in the future. I just lost a Lyretail fang blenny to starvation. I'd been looking for him for some time and finally found him and bought him only to find that he wouldn't eat ANYTHING at all. Really sad too. I sure hope the Blue Spot you found is still there for you next week and eating. Good luck!

| Smile Maker | Re: Bluespot bummer That makes me sad Lynn! Don't give up on the other one, keep your eye on him, he may come around. Was he in a tank by himself? Anyplace to hide? I'm glad that you are thinking about another one. Consider Live Aquaria, there QT regime is second to none and they deworm them. I hope the ones at your LFS pull through. |

| Tridacna maxima ![]() | Re: Bluespot bummer Lynn I am so glad Frank was there with you today so that you didn't end up losing one for no reason and then giving up on them. I second Scott's Diver's Den recommendation when you are ready.

| Sunshine Reefer ![]() | Re: Bluespot bummer I really wasn't looking for one and had said I gave up on them but put one on front of me and I forget all about that. No they weren't by themselves and didn't have anywhere to hide. I think that is why the other one looked so horrible. I really felt bad for him and I doubt he will make it more than a couple more days. ![]() I am going to go back next weekend. I'll see if he eats then. I would think he would either have to eat or start getting skinny but who knows. I won't get him unless I see him eating well. I know that is not a guarantee since several of us have had them eat fine and still have problems but it is much more likely to survive if it is at least eating. I did find the story very interresting though. I probably tell people to watch the fish eat before buying about 20 times a week. Then when I go to the store I forget all about it in my excitement. I was very glad he was with me this time. Funny thing is that we rarely go to the LFS together but this one was a bit farther away than we normally go so we both went.
