Lorraine's Bluespot Heaven

Well, I might as well get a thread started about my Bluespot. I've had her for two weeks now and she has checked out four different homes for sale in my 125 gallon tank. She is currently in the beachfront home. She absolutely loves to be fed with a pipette and of course I am here to serve her so that is what I do. I chose not to do a QT process this time, but acquired her from Diver's Den and they have an extensive QT process before shipping. My Bluespot's favorite friend, is my Mandarin. Maybe that is the other way around, I think my Mandarin's favorite friend is my Bluespot because she always finds her some great goodies.

The mandarin feeds the BS? That's so cool! Is that a common thing?

Great start for a thread and almost perfect timing too. Now we can follow your blue progress separately.

Re: Lorraine's Bluespot Heaven

Thanks everyone. Hopefully the little gal will let me take a better pic later. I try not to invade her with my pic taking. She has a great place, but there aren't very many shells or rubble around (she moved them all to the other end of the tank).

I think we need to name her - suggestions?

Actually, it is the other way around. The BS digging and turning over all the shells exposes lots of live food for the mandarin.

Re: Lorraine's Bluespot Heaven

I like the name Jewel for her.

Do they have the same characteristics as other Jawfish? Such as spitting sand everywhere?
Our Dusky used to do that and it would get all over the corals.

Re: Lorraine's Bluespot Heaven

They are all adorable names. I'll have to ask her. Speckle or Precious are my favorites, maybe Gem (instead of Jewel). lol I just what Spoterella was about...Too funny!

Gina - I've never had a Dusky, so don't have anything to compare my Bluespots too. I have found that typically Bluespots are pretty tidy on what the dig out. They typically "build" with the sand and most don't just throw it around. Occasionally a coral will get built into the den though. This new one of mine rarely digs. She always starts and finishes at night, by morning I see a mound and she just hangs out in the dugout all day. She always digs under a rock, but I have others who dig out in the open sand. The sand in my 50 gallon tank was all one sized, so the one I had in there had to work a lot harder to keep his home intact.

Re: Lorraine's Bluespot Heaven

My gal (still to be named someday), has built an elaborate mansion without shells. She has moved sand from one area to another such that there is no longer access from under my shelf to her cave. There are a few pieces of rubble here and there, but the structure is mostly just how she excavated under the vertical rock and put that sand under the shelf until there wasn't any more space under it. She likes to hang out behind the vertical rock, and plays peek-a-boo around the corner when she sees me. She can still pop out at the other top side in my mushrooms, which is really cute, but she doesn't usually hang out there.

Still taking suggestions on names.
