| Over Achiever | Re: The Bluespot Club That's a good looking jawfish Reza. I wonder if it is a subspecies of the Dusky jawfish? I have read that the Duskys pretty much stay in their burrow with just their head sticking out waiting to dart out at floating zooplankton. Whereas the the BSJF likes to hover over its burrow in the water column. Is your jawsfish exhibiting this behavior? |

| Dancing Mandarins | Re: The Bluespot Club Loraine, I am so sorry. My mom just lost two out of three of her yellow coris wrasse (bristle worm or Dragon wrasse food). Although I haven't lost a fish in a while (not since my first two yellow coris wrasse committed jumping suicide), I won't add a BSJF until I get the 180 and have euro bracing and some kind of anti jumping setup. But........I will have one ![]()

| Torch coral ![]() | Re: The Bluespot Club Scott, for the first few days, he would swim around the tank (mainly at night). After that, he has stayed in the same burrow for around four weeks now. When I feed the guys, he comes out to eat the mysis. Although he doesn't come out often, he has no problem darting out of his burrow to get the mysis. He acts very much like my other Bluespots, but he has shown no signs of white spots on his body. My Bluespots started to show white spots after a few weeks. He seems very healthy and happy so far. I am keeping my fingers crossed that he will be with me for a long time. Lorraine, the lfs in my area (2 different locations), labeled him as a Red Headed Jawfish. I can't find any information on the web about the Red Headed Jawfish. I have never seen this type of Jawfish before at any stores or online. |

| Over Achiever | Re: The Bluespot Club Yes Craig, I regret to say that Dotty disappeared about a week ago. Not really sure what happened to her. She was in her burrow when I went to bed and gone in the morning. I suspect either the Flower anemone got her or possibly a Serpent star. It's remotely possible that she found a small gap in the top and jumped out, but I didn't find her on the floor and I can't see behind the tank. Needless to say, I've been down since her disappearance. ![]() My beloved Dotty is gone! |

| Tunicate | Re: The Bluespot Club White spots on jawfish? My two jawfish are still in a quarantine tank, although I've moved them into a 20 gallon now. Anyways, I was on another forum, and someone had purchased a blue spotted jawfish from the same pet store I did about a month before I bought mine. He said that his jawfish had white spots on its body, and a week or two later his fish died. One of my jawfish has the same kind of spots, and I noticed it spread a little bit about a week and a half ago. This jawfish used to be real active, but all of a sudden, he just became lethargic and didn't want to eat when I tried to feed him over a period of a 4 days. Since they are in a quarantine tank, I was able to see that he had white poop. So I treated the tank with Metronidazole last Wednesday, and now he is always swimming and eats like a pig. Just wondering if anyone else has experience with the white spots, and knows what it is. Also, sorry for everyone's losses. One thing I've noticed with my jawfish, is that if they get scared, they swim fast and in random directions, causing them to run into stuff like the side of the tank (they even do this in the dark). I saw a video of a big jawfish, and it seems like they're burrows are on large flat areas of sand with not much else around. So I'm guessing thats their survival mechanism of escape, so I'm converting my display tank for seahorses, mandarin gobies, and the jawfish. I'm removing alot of the rockwork and doing a macroalgae display instead, so that my fish won't have to deal with anything dangerous when they freak out. I like this idea for a macroalgae tank: Reef Central Online Community - 100 Gallon H. Erectus, Seagrass, Macro Algae Lagoon Here is the link to the post about the sick jawfish: Saltwaterfish.com Message Boards - Sick Blue Spotted Jawfish |
