| Over Achiever | Re: The Bluespot Club I spoke to a guy today at Oscar's Exotic Fish, which is where I obtained my BS. I told him the problems that many hobbyists were having with their BS. I asked him where they get their BS from. He said that there are only two suppliers and they are both in South America. He gave me the two names, but wasn't sure and I wasn't able to find them on the internet. He said that he has been to both facilities and they are nicely run. I told him that I have been successful with the one I got from them but others haven't. He also said that they only keep their BS for a week and only sell them if they are eating. He said they were net caught and they don't get very many when collecting. He said intestinal parasites are common and that initially they may eat but then stop eating when the parasite consumes the stressed fish. This would explain Lorraine's BS signs and symptoms. Frankie we really need a necropsy on your frozen specimen! Microscopic examination of the internal organs may tell a lot. |

| Wannabe Guru ![]() | Re: The Bluespot Club Humm I wonder if the problem is Hexamita ? This disease is common in FW but can also infect SW fish. In the Portuguese forum there have been outbreaks of Hexamita in many Clownfish. I don't remember but Lorraine did you get to treat yours with metronidazol ?

| Tridacna maxima ![]() | Re: The Bluespot Club I don't know if mine is a good example to work through since he really never started to eat well in my tank. But, here is the treatment that I know he had. May - He looked colorful, healthy, and very attentive at my lfs. They were treating with Prazipro when I got him (they routinely do this). I inspected every micro inch of him... Can't remember if I asked them to feed him or not but I think I did. He was introduced with another jawfish into my 50 gallon tank with a semi- DSB, separated with a screen a day later, then moved to my 30. June - He was still not eating, but no visible signs of what could be wrong with him until one day I finally noticed ich on him and did a hyposalinity treatment. He perked up and started eating for a few days, then worsened again. Somewhere shortly after this time I noted white patches on his body. July - Still not eating, weaker, patches continued. Recently, I noticed stringy stuff coming out of him and treated with metronidazole, he did well the first 2 days of treatment, got worse the 3rd day, and even worse the next morning, so I aborted treatment 1 day early. A day or two later I did a 100% WC and a freshwater/formalin bath because he was not improving. He perked up that day, but died a day or so later. By the time I was treating him he was very weak and had not eaten much for over two months. Other stuff I tried were Melefix, Stresscoat, and frequent WCs. These seemed to perk him up for a day, but then he would regress again. I saw visible signs of internal parasites upon death, but don't know what kind.

| Over Achiever | Re: The Bluespot Club I left a message today with Andrew Kane, PhD. and Director of the Aquatic Pathobiology Center for VA-MD College of Veterinary Medicine. I gave a little history of our plight and asked for suggestions on how we can have a necropsy done or if he could direct us to the proper lab. I'll let you know as soon as I hear from him. |

| Tunicate | Very sad news to report. Our BSJF died last night. He was fine an hour before we went to bed, then we went to look at the tank one last time before bed, and he was dead. I really thought that we were going to make it - we had him for about 50 days. We noticed a "scrape" on him on Wednesday, and then last night he was gone. |

| Tunicate | Re: The Bluespot Club I really felt like there was no warning with his death. Like I said, there was a small "scrape" on his left side that we noticed on Wednesday - aproximately 1/2" long by 1/8" wide. It was by no means severe, it just looked like he had a minor abrasion. We discussed it together, and decided we would keep an eye on it to see if it got worse, and medicate if it got worse. It had not visibly changed by Thursday morning, or evening - then, suddenly he was gone. There were no rock falls, and I have no explanation for the "scrape" that appeared before his death. He was eating vigorously - mysis, clam, squid, mussel, enriched brine shrimp (never had any interest in pellets, or frozen "mixtures"). We will not be purchasing another Bluespot Jawfish until we can get a captive bred specimen. We really enjoyed him, and are very, very sad at his loss. |
