Re: The Bluespot Club

Congrats on the safe arrival of your Bluespot!!! I'm way jealous! At least I got a short break from work and got to get an early update! I have to work tonight, so will miss some of the fun later (pics and all I hope).

Tip #1 - Read the 54 pages of this forum again. Not much else to offer, but post any questions!

I think we will wear out the bluenod today!

Re: The Bluespot Club

Well he is doing good. He is still working on his burrow. He has a little mound of sand, and a few rocks infront of his hole. He is still very shy though, but I guess this to be expected. I can see into his burrow, He has dug allthe way to the glass. I this ok? I guess he will fix it as he feels nescessary.
Also has anyone else's BSJF attacked another fish right after being acclimated? He latched onto my wrasse, and showed him whos boss. It amazing how big their mouths are. Well Im going to feed now, maybe he will come out.

Re: The Bluespot Club

Michael, it's ok if they build down to the glass, what other choice do they have? My BS has build her burrow under a rock and has 2 outlets. It's a U-shaped burrow. I have never seen her attack another fish, but she will open her jaws wide to try and scare them off if they get too close. Yours was probably just scared and disoriented when you put it in the tank and was reacting out of fear. They are reported to be very good tank mates.

In this photo you can just make out the second outlet on the left, where all the rubble is. She goes back and forth between the burrow holes. My BS is at the front of the tank, in the middle and easy to observe and take pictures. It's amazing to sit and watch her. She is very aware of what is going on outside of the tank. She will rise up out of her burrow and look over the edge of the gravel bed at my cat walking by below. I also observed her follow, with her eyes, my wife as she walked to the answer the door, from across the room. They are amazing fish, with loads of personality. Always looking around and curious. You are going to have fun with this one!

Re: The Bluespot Club

I just fed him. He went crazy. I gues he was building when I started feeding. He came to the front of him burrow, and spat out a mouth ful of sand, then proceeded to eat everything in his path. I have not been able to get a clear shot for a pic, but I feel that I will tommorow. These are the most amazing fish ever. I officially have a new favorite fish. WE are soo blessed that we share the Earth will such amazing animals.

Re: The Bluespot Club

Now that the lights are out he is really exploring. Looking for building materials. He went right to the rubble pile that I made him. Gathering his "bricks". Im going to have to send him to get his general contractors license. Hes a little worker.

Gah.. Ive had him a few hours and Im already amazed at what he is doin. Cant wait till he opens up, and lets me see him out in the open, during the day.

Re: The Bluespot Club

Mine took a couple of days before she started to do her own thing. Initially, she shared a burrow with my Yellow Watchman goby and pistol shrimp. Over the few months that I have had her, she has made three or four different burrows, but ended up back at the one she made in the middle of the tank. More food goes there because of the tanks flow and she has a good view of everything. She has been evicted a couple of times by my Tiger Tail cucumber which for a while seemed to be following her like a traveling maid. She also does her rounds of the tank at night, and familiarizes herself with the lay of the land. I also suspect that she is hunting for nocturnal zooplankton etc.

Re: The Bluespot Club

I think the ones that get to digging right away are much more likely to make it. He is comfortable, feels a home, and not stressed out... This is a great sign.
