Re: The Bluespot Club

Wow you guys have been busy! Nice pics everyone!

Lynn, hope Number 1 shows up tonight! You could sew this netting with embroidary thread or dental floss instead of using tie wraps. I sent extra so you can be creative! Maybe you add some gutter around the overflow, or just drape this net over those areas??? I'm excited to see what you come up with.

Woody, I'm excited to see more Chiquita pics. Glad he is doing better!

Don't they also make a non-metal frame? Please post how the netting does with the MH's as soon as you can. Oh, you could probably find a black frame as well, or even spraypaint it black.

The netting is holding up great under the MHs. No warpage, sagging, melting or burning. This screen is the bomb!

So do you sleep better at night now with your screen. No more having to listen for a thud!

Well I received Scott W. Michael's book, Basslets, Dottybacks & Hawkfishes-Plus Seven More Aquarium Fish Families With Expert Captive Care Advice For The Marine Aquarist.

The following is taken directly out of the book:
Quote:
Opistognathus rosenblatti
Common Name: Bluespotted Jawfish.
Maximum Length: 10cm (3.9in.).
Distribution: Gulf fo California.
Biology: Bluespotted Jawfish are typically encountered near offshore islands, usually near the base of cliffs and rocky outcroppings. They build their burrows in mixed shell fragments and pebbles, covering the entrance to their burrow at night and rebuilding the entrances in the morning. While adult individuals are usually found at depths of 18-24 m (59-79 ft.), juveniles are sometimes found as shallow as 4.6 m (15ft.). This species lives in colonies, with individuals spaced about 1 to 3 m (3.3-9.8 ft.) apart.
These colonies can number up to several hundred individuals...(mating behavior left out).
Captive Care: At one time, this jawfish was affordable and not uncommon. But a strong market for this species in Japan drove the price up, and very few individuals entered the North American market for a period of years. Recently, this species has again become more available to U.S. aquarists. This is a magnificent aquarium fish that never fails to provoke wonder. Its husbandry is similar to that of other small members of the family, except it tends to be more aggressive toward members of its own kind. Keep more than one individual only if you have a larger tank. It is also risky to keep it with other jawfish species, although it can be done in a spacious system. Like others in the family, it is a very effective jumper that seems able to find the smallest of holes in the aquarium top to leap through.
Aquarium Size: 20 gal. Temperature: 21-28C (70-82F)
Remarks: this jawfish is not easy to overlook, as it is the most spectacular member of the family. It is beigh to yellowish brown overall with blue spots on the head and the body. Juveniles are yellow with or without spots.
Here is some eye candy! Pictures of Dotty I took tonight.

Re: The Bluespot Club

Great info Scott thanks.

Well Number 1 is still missing. We believe we have looked everywhere and nothing. I got home too late tonight, but I think we will tear apart the reef tomorrow and see if we can find him.

Re: The Bluespot Club

Hopefully he will show up in the morning (maybe a bribe will work) before you have to tear down!

Re: The Bluespot Club

Well we have been trying bribes with no luck. The rest of the fish are getting fat though. I have not given up yet, but I am not confident either.
