Re: The Bluespot Club

I think it is a great idea. They live in colonies in the ocean so as long as they have plenty of space they should be good. You want to avoid two males alone in a tank since they are known to fight. In a group I think it would be fine.

Re: The Bluespot Club

Liz isn't tomorrow here already? I will probably miss all the fun 'cause I'm going to be at work. Just wanted to let you know I'm thinking about you.

I don't know of any Bluespots that have been captively bred and sucxessfully raised. There have been other types of jawfish successfully bred and raised in capivity.

There are several jawfish threads about breeding on Marine Breeder. I haven't read through them all recently, but last time I was skimming them I didn't find much worth noting. If you do intend to try though, I would try and anything you can about breeding any kind of jawfish, so that is a good place to start. If you find anything you want to share, please do!

Re: The Bluespot Club

Well yay! Today is FINALLY Wednesday and BSJF has arrived! I'm so happy! His bag is floating in the tank right now. He looks good and was well packed. He came with two other fish we ordered for our 55, and all look pretty good. The only thing that worries me about them is that while they are well packed, in so many bags that I can hardly see the fish at all, the bags weren't inverted for shipping as far as I can tell (haven't opened them yet), and two of three fish (one being blue ) were stuck in the corners of their bags. They are still alive and I have freed them, but who knows how long they were stuck like that... Hopefully they will be okay. I'll get some pics up asap.

Re: The Bluespot Club

Okay, here he is in all his splendor! The first is of him acclimating in the bucket, the last two are right after I put him in the tank. I'm so happy with him! He's feisty and nice and fat!

Wink Re: The Bluespot Club

Thanks, no name yet. He went straight for the back of the tank a few minutes after I took the pictures and pokes his head out, but is not really out enough for my daughter to see him yet (and she comes up with all the fishy names). Hopefully tomorrow he'll be more visible, but I'm also a little nervous about jinxing him... Perhaps no name for the first couple weeks until we know he's settled and healthy.

Re: The Bluespot Club

Congrats!
Beautiful blue. Looks like he is in the same great shape the one I got from them was.
Best of luck and be sure to give him lots of rubble both big and small. Rocks and shells as big as turbo shells are great.

Re: The Bluespot Club

Okay, well he seems to be doing really well today. He ate like a little piggie this morning, and is poking his head out more and more. He has not made a burrow yet, but has found a nice tight space in between two rocks. During feeding he darted out frequently to take mysis and then would dart back in. I'm hoping he will build up the courage to come out all the way so he can find all the rubble I've left him and maybe then he'll even build a burrow in a more visible location. It's pretty hard to really look him over and make sure he's healthy in the place he's in right now so I'm hoping to see more of him soon. Hope everyone is doing well. I have to run and get everybody's crap ready for the first day of school tomorrow.

Re: The Bluespot Club

How old is your daughter? First day of school is on Friday? Boy!

Dasher
Dancer
Prancer
...hum, I guess it's only September. Early Christmas present?

It is a great sign that the kid is eating (the fish kid that is). Clam shells also work great if you have any around. It's fun to watch them build. The two of mine incorporated some larger tonga branch rubble into their places today.

Re: The Bluespot Club

Lorraine,
My non-furry/non-scaley child (my daughter) will be 4 in Feb. I think it's a little strange too that they made the first day Friday, but apparently they always do the fist day of preschool as a short day where the parents stay the whole time.... I guess they do it on Friday so if there are any issues that need to be worked out or items to be purchased, we have the whole weekend to do it... It's a mess. I've still got mounds of paper work to fill out! Who knew a preschool would ask so many questions about a small child's strengths and weaknesses and what we'd like to share with the class. I put down that I'd bring our trained goldfish Aristotle for show and tell.

Anyway, yeah I have a mix of all sizes of rubble, a bunch of shells including clam shells, and some old coral skeletons that came in a tank I adopted from someone on ebay... I just refer to the mix as rubble cause it's easier to type. Hmmmm, maybe I am lazy. hehe.

Time to make some coffee and figure out what my toddler wants to major in in college so I can put it in the forms for preschool.
