| Tridacna maxima ![]() | Re: The Bluespot Club I checked on the tank today when I got home and then fed the fish too. Just now, I peeked at the tank again before the lights go out, and I was looking at the Misses, no it was BJ. Then I went to look at BJ and discovered the Misses. They swapped homes! BJ is now cleaning house in the new place. The Misses is looking around like, this is a cool place! Can't wait to see the pile of sand the BJ leaves for me in the morning. They both seem fine, but I don't see my Midas Blenny anywhere who usually hangs out with them. Both of them keep looking up at the back of the tank. Dare I look?

| Sunshine Reefer ![]() | Re: The Bluespot Club If there was a way to spank a fish. Sunshine would be getting a spanking from mommy. Silly girl was hiding from me this morning and I couldn't find her anywhere. Scared me half to death. I was looking on the floor. In the sump. In the overflow. Behind and under rocks. I couldn't find her anywhere. Then I moved the shell from her favorite sleeping spot and sure enough I see an eye looking back at me. This was at 10am. She is usually up way before that. Silly fish scaring mommy half to death. Looks like all is well so my heart is coming back to normal.

Or, his burrow is still closed up tight and I'm looking around, and there he is on the other side of the tank! Sheesh!

| Midas Blenny | Re: The Bluespot Club I just wanted to say hi to everyone! I'll be a member on Wednesday! I'm so excited and happy to be here. I ordered my bluespot from reefhotspot but he won't arrive until Wednesday (dumb holiday weekend...)! I haven't come up with a name yet because I usually let my daughter name all the fish when we get them. I can't wait for him to arrive. I've been reading so much about their care and had some questions for the bluespot experts over here. First, I was reading at WWM that since they are a nervous kind of a fish (Bob Fenner refers to them as "high strung"), that in some cases it is best to skip the QT all together and just dip them and toss into the main tank after acclimation. What do you guys think of this? Also, I put a deep bed of sand and CC in my QT tank in prep for his arrival. I normally keep this tank bare bottomed. If I do QT him, should I take the DSB out and throw in some PVC, or leave the DSB? We currently have a Christmas wrasse that my husband bought in QT, and I'm not loving the idea of having them in there together. I always QT my fish, but I don't want to stress my new blue baby out any more than need be. What do you guys think? Oh, and thanks to all for a great club. I found you guys doing a google search for BSJF, and have been eagerly soaking up the info since.

| Sunshine Reefer ![]() | Re: The Bluespot Club Congrats on your blue. That is where I got my first one and he seemed very healthy until he jumped out of the tank. Be sure the top is very very well covered. They have even been known to jump through the squares on eggcrate and any tiny space you may have is a danger. They are wonderful fish and a joy to watch. Your little girl will love it. I spend hours watching Sunshine. Be sure to give lots and lots of building material small and large and anything in between. You will be amazed at how quickly it is used. I would not put it in qt with the wrass. If you are going to qt then I would leave the DSB. It will cut down on your ability to monitor the fish but will make it much more comfortable. Personally I don't qt them and I know of several others that do not. If I remember correctly their slime coat is supposed to protect them to some extent. Of course there is always the mysterious blue spot disease to be concerned about but as far as I know there is nothing you can do anyway. Be sure to post pics. Yes Lorraine she does seem to be getting lighter in the face and mouth. Not sure what it means but she is still building away and seems to be fine other than sleeping in and scaring mommy the other day.

| Tridacna maxima ![]() | Re: The Bluespot Club Welcome Liz! I tried a few in QT without success and then decided not to bother any more. You have to decide based on what risk you are willing to take for your other fish in the display tank. For me, the Bluespots are highest on the fish list. The DSB will make him more comfortable, but would need to be removed if you have to treat for disease. Depending on the size of the QT, I'm not sure if I would worry too much about the wrasse. Is the wrasse already eating well, looking healthy? Lynn, the Misses is getting lighter in the face too. It's got to be either diet or age. She still doesn't have anywhere near the color that BJ has though.

| Midas Blenny | Re: The Bluespot Club I'm thinking I'm just going to put in him the tank he'll live in then. I don't want him to go under any more stress than he has to and he will absolutely be the most important fish in the whole house as far as I'm concerned. I'd do just about anything, even if it came down to building him his own tank to make him happy. hehe. Hopefully it will work because I doubt my husband will let me get another if it doesn't. Keeping my fingers crossed...

| Midas Blenny | Re: The Bluespot Club Ah! Is it tomorrow yet. I can't wait for my little blue friend to come! I'm so excited I can hardly contain myself!!!! Tomorrow is the big day and I've spent most of this morning preparing for his arrival - did water change on his tank, installed eggcrate with window screen over top of tank and added lots of handfuls of mixed CC, rubble, and shells. Also, moved some of our lower-lying corals over to our 55 to give him more options for where to make his burrow. Hopefully he will like his tank. Im sooooo excited!!!! The more I read about him, the more excited I get!!! I can barely stand this bluespot fever! Also, now that I've done more research on BSJF than probably anything else in my tanks, I have a question for everyone.... I've read that they have been successfully bred in captivity. Was thinking about setting up a breeding tank just for a few of these guys. What does everyone think the chances are that it will work if I invest enough research, time, equipment, and money into it? Do you think that a tank raised blue spot, several generations down the road would have a better chance of surviving longer in a tank setting? I have this theory that it might work, but before I invest an estimated $4,000 into setting this up I wanted to get some feedback. NOTE: I would not be doing this for profit, but mostly for research purposes. My husband and I have become very interested in the idea of setting up totally natural reef systems with absolutely nothing pulled from the ocean (in an effort to limit our impact on wild reefs). Two of our tanks in the house are based around that theme, down to home-made live rock, and are doing very well, and looking even better than our reefs with items from the ocean. What do you guys think? (sorry if it's a little off-topic...)
