Re: The Bluespot Club

I just got my blue spot jaw fish last night. A pet store here in Grand Rapids Michigan gets them in stock quite often, they had two when i got it.

Re: The Bluespot Club

Cool Another Blue to add to the list.
Be sure to give him lots of rubble. Mine has made quite the network. Sand piled everywhere and many tunnels connected to each other.
This is not a fish for people worried about a nice flat sandbed.
But it is the most wonderful fish I have ever known.

How long should one wait before one contemplates acquiring said BSJF?

Re: The Bluespot Club

I think they are great looking fish. However I am already way past my agenda for fish. If my freebies survive, I may consider one in a few months.

Barb, your tank is way ahead of mine with that great rock.

Thanks, John. I know I'd like to add one for sure. I also know I won't be adding any fish at all until after my trip in June, and really I want to wait longer than that, if I can make myself!

I would like to know when a tank is "ready" for one, maturity-wise.

Re: The Bluespot Club

I don't think it is so much tank maturity as stable parameters. I also believe the 2 most important things are getting a healthy fish to start with and keeping it in the tank.
You do need to know you will need lots of rubble of various sizes and they will destroy your sandbed. Mine has a network of tunnels you wouldn't believe. I am very happy I have the rock on eggcrate in that tank it is less likely to have a rockslide.

Re: The Bluespot Club

Congrats CrackY!

Barb, I would add one when you think your tank is stable, or more specifically when you have experienced no deaths and everything in the tank is healthy for at least two months since any additions. Once you have one, QT new arrivals (including corals) will keep the little guy and everyone else healthy too.

Snelly that's great!

Mr. BJ was showing off tonight. Crash the computer loading the photos, but should have that fixed soon.

Re: The Bluespot Club

Sunshine is really aggrivating me. He has the most amazing tunnel system but every time I try to video him, he just sits there and looks at me.
I should have some good stills though to post later.

Re: The Bluespot Club

Lynn, they tend to get bolder over time. The other day I was doing one of my special feeding sessions where I drop pieces of scallop down to Spotty. When I went to spot feed my Elegance, Spotty was attacking the stick! Funny little guy!

Now, he comes out and feeds with the other fish during the feeding frenzy. I'll try to get some video of that sometime.

Thanks, Lynn. My rock is also on eggcrate. I've seen you post about the amount of rubble you've made available for Sunshine. As for destroying the sandbed... I think the sandbed is there for the creatures to make into what they need it to be.

These observations really help me. I will keep these things in mind. When I decide to add a BSJF I know I will get one from Diver's Den. It seems to be the general consensus that their specimens are very healthy. And, of course, I will be sure to jump proof the back of my canopy before ever thinking of ordering one!

I'll be keeping a parameter log until I get my aquacontroller set up. My friend the electrician is too busy to even consider working on my setup yet. The written log will help me keep track of things stability-wise!
