Re: The Bluespot Club

yes those were the pair. the bed started about 2-3 inch and ended up 6-8 in mixed sand and rubble bed on that side. tank temp around 80 around 1200gal/hr circulation a mag 18 with 1 T 2 45's and 2 90's per side of head...
1200wts of light sand was southdown
rubble was live rock hit with hammer to be no bigger than a quarter in size

Well this thread has enough morbidity, so let's see who has some good BSJF news to report, eh?

Well, my Blue has moved his burrow... again!
He's back towards the rear of the tank again.
Goofy little fish.

It's funny how we are amused by this species' antics, to them it is very serious work! Still, I have to laugh at Spotty with his little, expressive, froggy face!

Re: The Bluespot Club

Sometimes they will move around just because the flow is either too strong or not strong enough in the burrow they made. Food can get caught in it and when that happens it can pollute the burrow. Or, the opposite happens where food doesn't come near the burrow and they don't like to have to go so far away from the burrow to get their food. I've also seen lots of times where crabs kept falling into the burrow and caused them to move. They typically later move back in with a reinforced design.

Re: The Bluespot Club

My last ones loved the pipette feeder. They obviously had seen one of them before as they took right to it. It worked great until my other fish figured out what it delivered pizza right to the door!

Re: The Bluespot Club

Jasper has taken up residence in a little crevice in the LR. Most of the time he just has his head sticking out, just like a midget eel.

Happily he seems to be doing better after conservative treatment (medicated food plus, organic reef-safe whole tank therapy) for BSJF disease. I've also kept the tank dark for a couple days to clear out some algae and hopefully reduce his stress level. As there is a lot of SPS and some clams in the tank, lights go back on tomorrow but with reduced photoperiod.

I'll try to get a pic of his eel impersonation, it's quite funny.

Re: The Bluespot Club

Besides carpet surfing (and associated overflow diving), and the mystery parasite - what other factors have been attributed to their death. I don't think the temp / light contributory factors are predictors. How about slamming into hoods?

This is the most dismal threads i've ever read on any animal. My bsj has been in the store's tank for a week and a half and they are going to keep him for me for 2 weeks before he makes the trip from cali to the east coast. He'll be the only fish in the tank, probably for 2 months minimum.
