Re: The Bluespot Club

Sorry Craig my tank is right at 80. It fluctuates a little, but 80 is the norm.

That's great! Always nice to hear good news!

Re: The Bluespot Club

On a serious note, does that jawfish look young. It does not have the dark head, dark fins, or darker colored body. It just looks very fresh to me. I know that just sound very wierd but that is the best way I can describe it.~Michael

Re: The Bluespot Club

I have tried finding information on these little guys but as you said at my house it is very dificult to find specific details. It seems as though all jawfish are lumped togather into one single type. When there clearly are dramatic differences in the different species. I have tried to find info on sexing, and aging these guys, but it was to no avail. Have you ever found any info on the lifespan and how to determine age?

Re: The Bluespot Club

Not at all. Not even in the many books I have!

Have you seen this picture? It's a male/female pair. Not the best photograph, but they look old in the face. Do you notice any differences other than the obvious?

Re: The Bluespot Club

I have seen that picture before. Other than the color change, the males erect fins, and the females bloated appearance, I dont see any obivous differences. If the two were not in breeding mode, I dont think that there would be any external way of determining sex.

Is this normal sexual dislpay behavior? Is it prevalent in juvenile's behavior?

From all that I can gather, the males turn white during mating. What a way to attract a female, go all ashen!

We don't know if juveniles exhibit this behavior. No one in the Club has had two, except for Lorraine, and she unfortunately lost one.
