Thanks Dentoid, That is a cool pic! I hope the Hippo got away unscathed! I checked out the posts recommended & more than a few others. I'm working on a fish list for my tank & like the Blue Spot. Sounds Like a hardy & beautiful addition.

Do our warmer tank temps cause environmental stress?

Stress? I do not know Craig, whether the fault stress. With BSJF I have absolutely no experience. But with other cold-water fish I have. As I in another thread wrote, Fish are cold-blooded, they can not adjust other temperatures. The whole metabolism of the fish requires a certain temperature range. Otherwise they get big problems such as the removal of body toxins. The poison they can not segregate, it collects more and more in the body until the animal after a few months slowly dies. These are my experiences with similar fish.

Reminds you. My pair Gobys died because the heating few days was broken and I did not notice. Here was the opposite case, it was not too warm ..... It was too cold. The effects, however, are comparable.

Re: The Bluespot Club

Heinz, very good observations and it makes sense to me that a 10 degree change in temp from their home range to a tank could lead to the problems we see accrue over a 6 month to one year period.

Has anybody in this thread successfully kept a healthy BSJF for more than a year?

Re: The Bluespot Club

I have kept three different ones for over a year. I never tested my water,. My nitrates were well over 200. The temp in the tank was whatever it wanted to be (78-82). I used tap water. I mixed my SW in my sump. The last 6 months I was lucky to squeeze in a WC once a month. Let's just end this list by saying that I did a lot of things wrong! A lot of things I would never do again!

I am a much better mommy now.

Re: The Bluespot Club

ninjataco777 - For now, Scott and I have decided that the club logo is reserved for members who actually own Bluespots. Even Scott and I remove the logo from our signature when we don't have an actual Bluespot in our tank. Keep working on your cube and someday it will be ready for your Blue. Until then, you are in good company as a wannabee!

Re: The Bluespot Club

It has been 3 weeks since I posted my concerns regarding the white patches on the side of my Bluespot. I am happy to report that he seems to be doing great. He is looking much better. He has moved back to his original home, next to the Redheaded Jawfish. They get along with no issues. He is eating extremely well, so that is always a great sign.
