Re: The Bluespot Club

My blue moved a few days ago to a rock where my Palani Tang hangs out. By morning he was back in his old spot. The spot he chose was way to busy (kinda like the freeway of my tank). He is now living in a rural area and finding all the shells throughout the entire state of my tank that he carries home. Yesterday I was watching and every crab that went by his hole fell into it. After he picks up a shell, my Mandarin is right there checking out what was left behind.

I've learned recently that he has been fed in the past with a pipette. He loves to be fed this way! It's like he is sucking candy from a bottle.

Anyway, I took some video and need to figure out a way to post it. I'll be back...

Re: The Bluespot Club

I just wanted to give an update on my Bluespot. He seems to be doing great. He has moved towards the back of the cave area. The front of the cave, where he was popping out before, has been completely blocked with small pieces of rubble. By moving to the back, it has made it easier for me to feed him. He doesn't have to compete as hard as before with the other guys to get the mysis. Right around 10:30 p.m. or so, he pulls some rubble over his little hole, and he doesn't pop out until the morning. Unlike my Bluespots in the past, he does not come out of his area. He likes his tunnel. Fortunately, I have not seen any white patches on his body. The Bluespots in the past would have some white patches on their body after a few weeks in the tank. I am really hoping that all of our Bluespots are healthy and will be with us for a long time!!!

Re: The Bluespot Club

I'm glad everyone's blues are doing well. It makes me happy, happy, happy!

Sorry, but the video didn't work out so no pics. My gal moved again, I think she decided she didn't want to live on a crab superhighway either. In the short time I was shooting video there were 4-5 of them wandering past the entrance. It will be interesting to see where she is this morning when the lights come on. This latest place may work out as a good spot.

After she moved away from the mushrooms I took that opportunity to move them and ended up knocking my shelf over, so rebuilt that too. So if she goes back there she won't have a home to go too. I felt really bad, but I love those mushrooms and they were being buried by sand. I put another rock there that she can build under if she wants too.

Yesterday I was feeding my Palani some krill and my blue got a whole piece. It was hanging out of her mouth for nearly an hour before she finally was able to gulp it down. I was afraid she was going to choke on it (hum, they can choke can't they?). Anyway, she was well fed!

Smile Re: The Bluespot Club

Well, I have read quite a bit of information from your posts here and from other sources and will be getting one some time around Christmas or in Jan. after my 75G is cycled (hasn't been setup yet will start in a few weeks) and my 29g does not have enough sand for one. I have checked my lfs and the owner said he can get me one in for under $80 good news for me. I may even ask him for the prices he gives me if he can get a mated pair, but it may be pushing it a bit. Either way I just wanted to say I enjoy reading your posts (everyones) and the beautiful pictures of these specimen. I will post a picture of mine whenever I get it.

Heh, thanks. I always read as much as I can and try to give the best care I can to what I buy. After all I think of it as a small world under my care.

Re: The Bluespot Club

Welcome h20crazy! The success is tied to how the BSJF are caught, quarantined by the wholesaler, low sress during transportation/acclimation, and proper feeding. The less stress, the greater the chance of low appetite and subject to disease. Good luck and a non-aggressive non-overstocked reef community are also key.

Ciao,
Craig
