Re: The Bluespot Club

Sharkys Reef!

I put him in after two hrs acclimating, he has already kicked my pistol shrimp out of his cave and taken over.
He has been peaking out of his cave a lot so I get to see him.

Re: The Bluespot Club

Debbie I was afraid you were going to say Sharky's Reef.
I am plannig to drive up there tomorrow to get a new coral or two.
I hope the do not have any more BSJF.

I am going to start this mantra tonight:
I will not buy a BSJF.
My tank is too new and I saw a cirolanid isopod swimming last week.
My sand bed is only 2 inches deep.
I will not buy a BSJF.........

Re: The Bluespot Club

Okay...I won't tell you that they do have another one, oooops I didn't say that.

They don't even know that I took this one home yet, last minute before closing I just had to have him. I will have to volunteer some O.T. for this one.

What time are you stopping buy Sharkys? Sorry I will miss meeting you.

Debbie

Mondays are part of my weekend. I'll probably go in the afternoon 2-3ish.
That way I'll have less trafic to deal with.

Re: The Bluespot Club

It seems like alot of people are getting BSJ right now, but I was wondering if anyone will QT their fish? I've had two BSJ in a 20 gallon QT tank for the last two months, and they are doing well. I meant to transfer them to my display tank after a month, but it had a huge diatom bloom (completely covered the tank after I got some chaeto from a fellow reefer), and I am cycling it again.

Anyhow, the extended period of quarantine has gone well, as I was able to treat the water with some medication when one quit eating and had white fish poop (suspected internal parasite). He has since recovered and has been eating well since then.

I feel I've learned my BSJ behavior pretty well, and know what to expect when they're healthy. My quarantine tank is pretty standard, it's bare bottom with PVC pipe hiding spots (I removed the plastic containers that separated the two and had sand for them to burrow in when I first got them.) Covering the tank well is really important though, because they can easily get through coverings I've learned. Both have made it outside of the tank despite the tank being covered, but I was luckily there when they plopped out.

In any case, though, I know of a fellow reefer who got his BSJ from the same LFS I did, and his died on him after 3 weeks in his display tank. I probably would have lost one, but the QT tank let me observe them and take appropriate action when needed. I just wanted to post my experience, so that people aren't still under the impression that BSJ need to be put in a fully mature tank to survive. Also, I've fed them a diet of 70% mysis shrimp and 30% Formula One.

Re: The Bluespot Club

Congratulations Debbie and welcome to the club! You won't be disappointed with your purchase. By the looks of yours , I would say that yours is a mature male. Males usually have the black spots on their face.

Souabel, that is great that yours are still doing so well after 2 months. I wish you would post here more often. I'm beginning to think more and more that intestinal parasites may be the problem with these guys. Karma for your QT research!

Re: The Bluespot Club

Reza, that is the prettiest picture I've seen! Two species of jawfish together as neighbors. Congratulations!

Re: The Bluespot Club

Marine Center also has Bluespots in stock now if anyone is interested.

Blue Spot Jawfish

I'm nervous about my baby blue. I have been having problems with my e-mail account and I wasn't notified of the shipment by e-mail. I had the problem last time and asked that they call me with the tracking information as well. They did, and I wrote down the tracking info, but what I wrote isn't a good #. To make matters worse, I have training tomorrow and don't know when I can escape. At least the little guy will be at the Airport FedEx and not in a truck or on my front porch.
