I must have been REAL good....

Santa gave me an early present!

I just got a Canon EOS 10D digital camera.

This thing is an SLR and uses the same lenses as my wife's Film camera the Canon EOS Elan IIe.

It has a max resolution of 6.3 megapixel, several auto modes, manual white balance from 2800 - 10000K (sound familiar) and enough customizable features to keep me busy until next Christmas...

Now Daddy needs a printer...!

I'll try and get some pictures on soon. I'm still reading the instructions....though I have snapped a few test shots. Nothing worth posting yet.

I am so stoked right now I can hardly sit still! This thing is way cool!!

It comes with Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0. Does anybody know anything about this program? Is it good? Or, is there something else that I should spend my time learning?

Thanks!

Well, Craig, lets just say I could have gone diving for a week in the Caymans...now I can stay in Texas and take pictures on my little slice of the ocean...I think in the long run this was a better deal considering all the pics of my kids I'll have now that film is no longer a problem...

From What I know of Elements it is basically Photo shop. Same Algorithms and tools. The software is written for people outside the photo industry and want to manipulate digital images. The terms used are closer related to common terms instead of industry terms for ex. Colour correction is done with a ring around so you just pick the best image instead of sliding bars that control Magenta, yellow, and cyan. It great software and as a freebie I would say nice score.
It being bundled with the D10 probably means the profiles for the camera are already loaded into the software. This will be an added bonus for correct colour rendition.

Thanks, Jakets. I've got some major reading to do. I do love a new project...

Craig...I did get it online. I checked several sites and found it cheaper at some by as much as $200. But, at the end of the day, I wasn't comfortable with the sites because they weren't associated with brick and mortar stores. I checked with Wolf (Ritz) camera. They were out in all the Dallas area stores and online. I got it off Fry's Outpost.com. Overnight shipping was 8 bucks!

Congrats Hap! Now this is a camera I can absolutely, positively recommend.

What lens(es) did you get? Since you're in the area, feel free to drop by for a tutorial, or if you want to try on one of my lenses.

Thanks, Travis. After the holidays I'd definately like to get together for some advice.

I got the 19-35 mm lens. Since the digital focal factor of this camera is 1.6 that makes the lens equivilent to a 30-56mm film camera lens which is pretty standard. I also have two lenses that I can use from my wife's camera. Those are a 28-105 and a 70-300 with the corresponding focal factor correction not applied.

I'm not ready to dump film all together but this is definately a step in that direction...

With those three lenses I would see if you can talk santa into a set of kenko extension tubes or, even better, a Caon 500D close-up diopter. You should be pretty set after that.

I have a 70-300 as well, it's a Sigma APO macro super. The red-headed stepchild of my camera bag, it's just plain outclassed by the Canon lenses.

But we can chat more about that later... for now, enjoy your new toy!!! And don't forget I've got some frags here waiting for you.

My wife has confiscated my amex card....

I'll have to be happy with this setup for a while before I can get any more new toys.

That shouldn't be a problem....

I haven't forgotten the frags, T. The holidays are crazy, you know? We'll hook up next year.

We're off for San Antonio tomorrow morning to spend the holidays. I'll pm or call you when I get back.

Have a great Christmas!
