Best book for Photoshop 7 newbie?

I am finally going to do something about my interest in photography. I am still looking for the right digital camera for me, but I already have Photoshop 7. I have looked at some books concerning PS 7, and could use some advice. What is one of the best books for a PS 7 newbie?

If it helps, I am considering a Nikon Coolpix 8700, the Olympus C-8080, or the Canon Powershot G6. They all are in the same price range from online vendors.

I got one called Photoshop 7 killer tips, very cool... nice, quick tips and tricks.

If you're just diving in, I learned years ago with a book called the "Visual quickstart guide" I believe.

Should I learn the basics first, or dive right into the cheats and tricks? I do have experience with Macromedia's Picture Publisher, so I know some of the nomenclature.

I would learn the basics first or you'll be lost.

There are some visual learning CD-ROMS that are great because they provide sample pics with tutorials. I think the only way to learn PS is by doing.
