Free noise reduction pgm

I've been playing with this amazingly good freeware program tonight and have come to the conclusion that EVERYONE should have it. It's very easy, no photoshop required, and makes a big difference. Check it out!

Travis are you using this on a high ISO picture?
My Tiff looked better before I processed it with this software.
If only for High ISO shots I will have to take some high res and test it then.

Yeah, you shouldn't run any noise reduction on a file that doesn't need it. Blow your file up to 100% and look for noise. Also, if you blow something up by cropping, you'll definitely want to use it.

Here's what I did with a crop:

Before

After

(those are both 100% crops, so yeah, I know they're soft. They're heavily cropped to show the difference in noise)

I use Dave Marsit's action (the one linked above) and it does a great job. I've posted about this before, but there is another app that is free for personal use (the trial never expires) that has camera profiles as well, if you want to pay for it, it will plug in to photoshop and that is neatimage www.neatimage.com it does a very nice job. However, what I use most these days, is Fred Mirandas ISOxPro Plug in, it's only 20 bucks and does an excellent joband it's a little faster on a 35mb file than either of the other two above.

Dave, I think you downloaded the wrong edition of the software I posted here. If you download the community edition, it doesn't expire AFAIK.

Thanks for the link, I love playing with different noise programs to see which works best.

I have Fred's ISOR pro for 10D. It does a good job, but it's painfully slow on my computer, and the noiseware community edition has handed it a royal spanking IMO.

i dounloaded the ones that Kevin and 'T' posted, but cant figure those out either but they do seem to be cool and you know most of my pics have a little noise (ok, a lot)
