i say this as my best advice to a beginner. do not,,,and i repeat,,,,,DO NOT look at my tank as an example....i have a well practised eye, decades of experience, and a trunkload of failures to allow me to force the issue and get away with things most cannot~

Nick,

Fortunately, this isn't my tank...unfortunately it's my sisters. They thought it was pretty neat even though they lost the fish. As far as explaining it to my daughter.....I showed her the pictures and explained about how the fish was food for the coral. She thinks of corals as plants or vegetables (which is really cute sometimes), and this helped her understand that they are more than that. The yellow tang was one of her favs, but I hope/think she realized that she won't see it anymore (until a new one arrives ).
