How about a preliminary thumbs up?

I looked this one up here

http://www.steves-digicams.com/2003_reviews/z1.html

And it does seem to fit the bill wonderfully and with a great price tag to boot.

I’ll never completely give my thumbs-up to a camera I haven’t used, but this one sure looks like a winner to me.

It's not a SLR stoney.

Many makers have been marketing their cameras as "SLR-like" which I personally don't get. It either is or it isn't IMO.

That's why it's $330, eh. Nice features, but not an SLR.

The only thing I've heard bad about the Minolta's is the battery life tends to be a little , but that's something you can work around if it has all the capabilities you are looking for, and takes great pictures.

I've been looking at the Nikon Coolpix 4300. Anyone hear good or bad of this camera?

The G5 isn't an SLR but for 1/4 the price I'm happy.
I snapped a few from the Dallas Aquarium.

All I needed was to resize these to post but even so, they seem to come out fairly decent for a digital.

Great pics all. Travis, thanks for this thread. I've only read it 5 times at this point as I'm thinking of getting a digital camera. This is great info.
