My first pics

All right, some of you have seen these on the front already, but these two are my first "presentable" pics after two nights in front of the tank. First, my mated clowns hosting in their leather.

Nice pics, what kind of editing software are you using for them?

Hmm... editing software? Whatever came with the camera, I guess. Zoom something? I'm not at home right now, so don't know. These pics were unedited, and from the looks of Scooterman's work, I need to fix my white balance. Maybe I'll try Travis' coffee filters.

I also seem to have a hard time with the focus, things aren't as crisp or clear as I'd like. Any focus thoughts?

But I don't think that they're bad for my first couple of shots.

I think your pictures look good! I wish our clowns would host in our leather instead of the elegance.

i have a canon G3 and the software that came with it was the Zoom browser,,, that is used to get the pics from the camera to the PC and view them. it also came with Photoshop LE....that is the editting software...check your packing list to see what software came with yours.

i say this as my best advice to a beginner. do not,,,and i repeat,,,,,DO NOT look at my tank as an example....i have a well practised eye, decades of experience, and a trunkload of failures to allow me to force the issue and get away with things most cannot~

Gina - The clowns actually used to host in an open brain, which didn't make the brain too happy. The brain died due to my heater malfunction.

John - These guys were sold to me as captive bred. Highly recommended. I heard that they were a type of ocellarus, and not percs, but I'm not really sure about their exact taxonomy.

Scooter and Wittful - Going to have to look into the editing software when I get home. I have zero experience with it, so should be interesting. Tripod would be nice, but I'm going to have to settle for the back of a chair for right now.

And thanks to everyone for the comments!

Very nice start! From looking at the pics I think the camera's focus is fine.

On the first one, you focused on the back clown, so the front one was out of focus. You can fix this with a larger aperture setting. Try F/5.6 or so.

On the second, you have a little bit of camera shake going on, but also the shutter was a little slow for the butterfly, that's why it's more out of focus than the rest of the pic.

BTW, you can get a cheap tripod for about $20 that will do fine. And it will really improve the pics!

Keep em coming!

Thanks for the input, it's appreciated! I'll look into a tripod in the next couple of weeks. I'll also try and figure out a faster shutter speed, that should help with pics of fast fish, right?

I'll be posting more in the coming weeks, so you guys will have more fun critiquing!
