| Scopas Tang | Action pictures in dim light I have been trying to get a good setting to take action pictures (movement) in low light situation with a digital camera, when I do I get the light saber effect when the moving elements is a blur of color from the start to the end of the shot. I've tried changing my system to it's action setting which works great with flash or lit shots but there are time when you can not use a flash. I've tried to change my ASA to 400 and didn't have any luck either. Does anyone have a good tip or recommended settings ? |

| Contributing Member ![]() | In low light conditions, your probably going to have to use the flash. At iso 400 your going to have alot of noise in the pic. You can try using the fastest shutter speed possible with your cam where you can still see some detail and bump your exposure compensation up as far as it will go and make your aperture as large as you can (smallest number), but your still liable to come out with blurry pics. |

| Smilie Bartender ![]() | Yup, light is the currency of photography. The more light you have, the more you can do. The less you have.... well, you've seen the results. You either have to add light (with a flash) or stick to non-moving subjects. Sorry. You would be surprised at how many of my pics are taken with flash these days. The key is a GOOD off-camera flash unit. The on-camera ones suck, generally speaking. Travis

| Scopas Tang | Thanks for all the input. I've tried most of the suggestions. The problem is in some places they will not let you use a flash. the unit attachched to my camera provides a pretty good flash and has several modes. i am happy when witht he pictures when I can use it but those times I can not I get bad photos. At least I c an delete them, no film wasted. I will keep trying/experimenting to see what works the best. Attached is an outdoor image at night that is not moving so you can see the results. |
